Maple Leaf Rag v2

Description
A few years ago I submitted a version of Maple Leaf Rag that had a drum track (http://www.macjams.com/song/18336) with the promise I would submit one without.

Here is the drumless version of Maple Leaf Rag.

Let me know which one you like better.

From Sheet Music
Thanks for the comments.

This is Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag. Family went to Tokyo Disneyland a few years back and they were playing this. My daughter asked if I could play it (see the drummed version for the story).

Since the first time
I heard Joplin I always wanted to learn this kind of piano but I never took piano lessons... I learned what little piano I knew by just doing it and I never developed the left hand skills needed to do something like this.

This is really cool!

So Much Fun To Play
I remember the feeling I had when, after years of piano lessons and playing only classical music, finding ragtime.

There's life after Bach

I know what you mean. When I was recording it, my kids were jumping around and dancing.

National anthem
Nice performance of an American classic. The swing feel is heavier then the way it is usually performed which made me think of Jelly Roll Morton playing it that way in the Storyville district.

I think what you are hearing is that it is played slower than most people play it. This gives you time to appreciate the sounds more... in my humble opinion that is.

Once I get tired of putting loops together (see my other tunes) I might start a Joplin Tribute. Probably the next song I do will be the Entertainer.

Maple Leaf
what a fun project! as a pianist, i can attest to the difficulty of this ole'ragtime gem. Sounds like you're having fun. And I agree - there's life after Bach (or in my case, more Haydn) - thanks for the grin!

I had a lot of fun playing this song. For me, once I found Rag Time, there was no turning back.

Another favorite of mine is The Entertainer. I might do that one next.

I love the tempo
I agree with your comments about hearing it. Too many times people want to show off with a Joplin piece instead of playing it so we can enjoy it.
