Description
I've been re-reading one of my favorite books, The Deptford Trilogy by Robertson Davies, and in the second tale of the trilogy the main character goes through a rebirth of sorts. This rebirth is catalyzed by a terrifying and thought-provoking journey through a pitch black tunnel deep within a cave. When David finally comes out at the end of the tunnel he is awestruck by a huge cavern of natural beauty and a primitive people's sanctuary. But it is not the wonder of the glittering shrine that brings about his rebirth - it is his slow crawl through the darkness, enveloped by warm earth and musty air, alert to every sound no matter how unfamiliar, and forced to go deep within himself to find the strength and courage to continue forward.
There is nothing frightening about the darkness. We all have Shadows within and around us. It is a powerful journey to take, into the tunnel, where we can mindfully and compassionately confront these Shadows, get to know them, and come out the other end into a beautiful place filled with new knowledge of ourselves.
This song was originally intended to be a meditational piece...and I suppose in many ways it still is. I recommend headphones and a quiet space. Let this resonate deep within you.

I have used as my main instrument here the Hang Drum. A few weeks ago futzpucker sent me a link to a Youtube video. I watched it, spellbound by this instrument I had never seen or heard of before. I searched for anything I could find about hang drums and will put some links here for you if you are interested. I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase EastWest's Stormdrum2 a little while ago and was ecstatic to discover that there is a Hang Drum sample!! So, I've been playing and experimenting and this is what came of it. Enjoy.
Here is a great blog with lots of good info about hang drums: http://www.hangblog.org/2006/11/27/how-to-buy-a-hang/
And here are a couple Youtube videos. I didn't want to embed videos that aren't my own on this song page, so I'm just going to put up the links:

No matter the environment and topography, flora or fauna that you decide to travel through, there appears to be nothing through which you can't lead your listeners, with the eye of your ear, to find beauty in your musical creation.
