The Coward By The Lake

 Genre: Lo-fi

I'm on vacation in the Okanagan (B.C.) and absolutely loving it, but missing my little mini studio at home . I brought my Taylor though, and had some time to write a little ditty about a guy who's out for revenge. Guess I must be in a vendetta kind of mood... Anyway, I recorded this on a Macbook with the pinhole mic in a noisy room (hence the lo-fiedness), and I actually have a couple more minutes of it left to tell the full story, but thought I'd wait and revisit it at home. So, consider this a demo version to be re-recorded in a week or so. Just really wanted to get something down so I didn't forget it, and thought I'd share.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to write 1-2 more over the next few days. If so, I'll try to record and post.

*PS headphones recommended if you wanna actually hear it ;)

Got my six gun by my side
Gone to kill a coward by the lake
Waitin for this thunderstorm
To block out that one shot I'm gonna take
Beat my sister to the death
That's the last mistake he's gonna make

Hand as steady as a rock
Itchin for the trigger it's gonna pull
Eyes as sharp as Mountain Hawk
Lookin for his dinner down below
Cool as calm before the storm
Even though the storm is comin soon

It might not be right
To take a life
So daddy please forgive me
I know not what I do

Don't know if it needs re-doing.
It's fine as it is unless you want to just leave a touch of sound at the end as the end is a little abrupt.
The back ground noise ( air-con) sounds like a rainstorm in the background and fits the lyrics.
Good stuff

Long live the pinhole mic!
Sounds swell Ridd - looking forward to the complete story - these tales of revenge can go n for some time - but usually come to no good end.

Very very nice. Personally I like it just the way it is. Has a Pedro the Lion feel. It would be cool if you recorded the whole song on the pinhole and then added other bits studio style. I'm sure your revisit will be killer, though.

classic man
That low-fi sound works perfect with the acoustic and the format. Great story.

Great Song
Like you say Lo-Fi buts that is cool, makes it sound more authentic if you know what I mean. Reminds me of Michelle Shocked Campfire Tapes.

A very
dark murder ballad disguised in the happier chords. A good song always stands on its own.

Very nice
I think the lo fi quality of the recording is going to sound better than a full production of this song. This song sounds like it was recorded on vinyl. The noise sounds like you are outside in the rain when recording it. I would leave it but then again I am a tinkerer too.

the lo-fi quality actually fits the song perfectly. i can hear this on your next record, completely as is. would make a nice transition into one of your beautifully produced rocking tracks. great song too. just went on vacation and didn't have a chance to record at all. jealous.

1927 recording.
Is your vacation in the appalachian or something ? You're tapping into the folk ghosts here, with a little indie rock touch at the end. Nice.
