THEY DON'T BELIEVE YOU

Description
Sorry folks, could only find a cassette version of this, hence more hissing than at Cleopatra's demise. The original's somewhere in Germany, collecting mothballs. That having been said, it's still one of my favourites and although the lyrics now have a less bleak outlook than this version, I really love the mood of it. Imagine yourself in an age ( not far from now) when we go into space for years, not months and try to explain how it feels when we get home, probably to a generation we've never met.

Lyrics
THEY DON’T BELIEVE YOU
Music & Lyrics: Richard H. Jones

Eternally the stars surround you
Form like prison bars around you
Everywhere you look they’re always there
Sometimes they demoralize you
Hypnotize and traumatize you
They can even drive you to despair
Way out there

Where’s the Earth the Sun bequeathed you
Where’s the grass that grew beneath you
Where’s the living proof that you’re alive
Feeling lost you gaze about you
At a world that turns without you
Careless if you perish or you thrive
Or just survive

And as your feet touch the Earth you laugh to feel the wind
You’ve been so close to God you feel you’ve sinned
And they don’t believe you
They won’t believe you
They simply can’t conceive
How your soul can grieve
Out there

Endlessly the night enfolds you
And all the things that helped to mold you
In the eyes of Heaven come to naught
You feel your insignificance
And turn away in self-defense
You’re just another crazy astronaut
Far from port

And as your feet touch the Earth you laugh to feel the wind…

Humanity’s most advanced science
There you sit in mock-defiance
Measuring mortality in miles
But light-years on beyond your numbers
Darker than your darkest slumbers
Lies the empty truth in full denial

And they don’t believe you

They don’t believe you
They don’t believe you

BELOW IS NOW THE LAST VERSE, AS I DON'T FEEL QUITE SO NIHILISTIC THESE DAYS :-))

Ever reaching outward knowing
There’s a chance we may be going
Further from ourselves with every mile
But light years on beyond all numbers
Deeper than our deepest slumbers
Waits a greater truth, a greater trial

Luckily I have no twin brothers...
so I'll never have to explain our age difference to him :-) Nice mellow tune, has an almost Al Stewart sound in the beginning, but it opens up in the middle there. Pretty nice recording, considering the tape... and a magnificent song, great singing as usual... glad you kept the tape and extracted it to share.

EDUARD
Happy to hear from you and hope you're well. Thanks for the nice words and I can't seem to get a good filter system, that keeps the treble. I guess I'll just have to go to Germany!

I ...
... don't mind some hiss and stuff like that as long as i is good music .. and this is! I like the verse part a lot, your voice works so well there. Really pro.

I would personally have avoided New age as a genre since that concept has so many connotations that I feel that your song actually is free from.
