Description
In searching for the title to this I came upon "The Silk Purse" Thought it was pretty clever with hints of the Far East - a sow's ear - then I discovered that my gem had already been used by Linda Ronstadt for one of her albums. Damn got to keep looking but after pausing for a moment I didn't think Linda would really mind sharing her title or at least part of it with me and I always did like her and heck maybe one day she might even consider adding a vocal line to this.
Time for some music.

Slow march toward the East
Nice work, Charles... this evokes cinematic images of a caravan, ponderous packs of possessions, slowly winding through the mountain passes. I liked the early string/horn coupling.

Very warm
sounding piece that moves forward at a nice steady pace, while sounding very grand, lovely work with the violins and horns, regards M

Glorious
Nice and big sound. The percussion could be a bit louder without getting overbearing.

Thanks Len,
We may not be able to afford 10,000 extras and fancy effects but we can still make our own personal epics.
Thanks my friend,

I hear the rounding of a pass
and as the mists clear the new valley below, in some foreign land, is laid out in all its glory for the travellers to see. Strong start with the horns and strings to establish the listener right into the action. I lie how the cellos pick up the counter melody at 2:10 which then blends into the strings to a brass tutti flourish. It's like a sudden ray of sunlight blazing through roiling low clouds.

Although your works are not traditional marches per se I get the strong sense in many of them that there is a determined movement forward - not rushed, not running from but unstopably progressing toward something with great deliberation.

Fine orchestration here Charlie. Well thought out and executed.

I'm off to hear version 2 now.

Best always,
Doug

Thanks Doug,
Often when I read your comments I get a better sense of and even appreciation of my own work and what others might be hearing. You put into words what I'm unable to say and can only convey with my music.
Thank you my friend,
Charlie
