The Oort Shuffle (An Ambientle Mix)

This is my first mix for a while. I've been focused on mobile operating systems and how to get underneath the hood/bonnet of iphones (3G) and Android phones (G2), so I've just surfaced enough to play with sounds again.....hence this Experimental Ambient piece.

It's Ambient with experimental untertones, as you may gather from the background rhythm that appears from time to time, across the main rhythm.

As always, I'm happy to hear any thoughts, good or not.

Up from under the bonnet
Good to have you back. Quite a bit different sound for you. Hypnotic, kind of dark, sparse, with the lead instrument trying to be upbeat but finding itself oppressed by the dark swirling background. Fantastic mix. Crystal clarity. Much enjoyed.

Hi Duane.......
I'm in and out of Macjam's and music creation in general at the moment. I still have the bug of mobile operating system development, so who knows what music will appear here any time soon.

This piece was put together to basically relearn/remember what I did before, as my mind has been focused completely in another direction. That is why it is probably different. I have no other explanation.

The clarity came from using reverb differently to how I normally use it, with this time using two stereo tracks of the same music and only verbing up one pair, then just equalisation to finish off.

Take care.

Yes welcome back!
Ambiental? Like the genre! Great mix. I've got it booming through here at 10.30 am and I'm annoying the neighbours. Not annoying me though. Great combination of sounds. I think the insistent industrial sounding percussion works very well with the higher lead instruments. Nice work Paul.

Hi Dave.......
I'm glad you liked the mix. I hope you don't get turfed out through annoying the folks next door!!!

As I said above, to Duane, I had to remember what I did before and also I changed the effects side of mixing, so I'll try and reproduce this in future mixes.

The percussion sometimes sounds OK in this type of mix, so I left it in for others to devide.

Teke care.

it is reminiscent of another group. venn diagrams of music coalesce. orbiting detritus creates music of the ellipses. it is music to clear the head. it excites right and left synapses. it creates a brainstorm of ideas. thank you. 0x0

Hi ic42......
If my music has this effect on you, and maybe others, it makes me very happy.

Your thoughts are like music to me.

Take care.

Q: how is Paul's music like a mobile OS?
A: I take it wherever I go.

I'm sorry to have been away as well and missing all this great music. Time to get a little dose of it tonight tho'.

This one's interesting since you have this really straight ahead drum track that keeps the rest of the tones on track as it were. It's like all of the synths get a little solo in a synth jazz band.

You know that I just download your works first and then take a listen as I am very certain that I will like them. This is no exception.

Cheers Paul,

Hi Doug.....
I do try to have some variation in technique or instruments and this piece seemed to need some percussion, so I added it. I'm glad that I did, because I agree with your thoughts on this track.

Take care.
