Description
This song is dedicated to Roland Fuchs, his wife and daughter, and all others at Ramstein that day.
A year or two ago I read Roland Fuchs' account of the Ramstein Air Show Disaster in Germany. The video is iconic, but if you don't remember it's the one where the jets collided mid-air and killed 72 people, most on the ground. He was badly burned in the accident and his wife was killed almost instantly. But perhaps most heartbreaking is how his severely injured little girl was taken from him (by medical professionals). He describes her face as she was taken and it's just so heartbreaking. He passes out right after she's taken and wakes up later from a medically induced coma only to find his wife was killed and his daughter died 10 days later from burns she sustained.
I read his account at work one day and cried my eyes out. I was so shaken I couldn't think straight the rest of the day. I could only imagine if that had been my family and how devastated I would be. This song is kind of a tone poem of what Roland must have felt like lying in that bed. Swallowed by grief, your own unbearable pain, and the feeling that it has to be a dream.
Roland's story can be found here: Flugtag88.
I'm not sure why it won't allow a direct link, but once you get there, Select "Roland Fuchs" from the right-hand side. Once it comes up you can scroll down a bit and it gives you the option to read it in English.
Headphones would be ideal for this track.

I teach air traffic controllers here in Germany and we have talked about the accident a few times.
Makes you thankful for ever moment you got with your family and how quickly fate can take everything away.
Great soundtrack style-
Dave
