Why Do I Fall In Love?

Description
This song came to me while I was goofing off on my acoustic guitar. I haven’t really written this kind of music before, so it was kind of fun. It really showcases my mediocre guitar playing…

Lyrics
Can you see it in my eyes
The way I look away when you walk by
Can you hear it in my voice
That little tremble’s not my choice
Can you feel it in my words
This kind of pain I don’t deserve
Is this the way it’s got to be
Loving you is killing me

Why do I fall in love
With everything that I can’t have
Why do I fall in love
With everything that I can’t have
Is that so bad?
Is that so bad?

Those fancy gifts I cannot buy
And I’m not a handsome guy
It’s not hard for you to tell
That I don’t clean up very well
So I know I can’t compete
With other gentlemen you meet
Is this the way it’s got to be
Loving you is killing me

Fantastic!
If you think yours is mediocre, you should hear mine. I
thought the vocals could have been brought forward a bit,
but that may just be the softness of the effect you have on
them. Excellent song, mastered and played well (we are
always our worst critics). I don't know what else to say It's
fantastic.

Thanks for the comments, Iseae. Means a lot coming from you. I really like
your stuff. Wish I could mix/engineer half as good as you.

I was surprised to see the 3 here
This song reminds me of Matthew Sweet and Badfinger.
Well done.

Thanks Mungo. Badfinger - that dates you and me both. Baby Blue was the
first 45 I ever bought!

I was surprised to see the 3 here
My first "real" (that is, most stuff on Peter Pan records or whatever) 45 was
Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours". First LP? "Revolver",
bought about 1973 or so.

But judging from some of the pictures I see, we're not the only oldsters here.

But I am a newbie at creating music.---

a fine ditty
George Harrison wouldn't have lost any sleep over hearing
it, but it's a perfectly fine little guitar ditty. The lyrics are a
little odd in places and It could use a touch of variation in
the second verse, as it's a little repetitive at the moment.
Still, quite catchy and charming. Shame about getting a
bomb troll.

Great Song...
I enjoyed this one. It has an interesting folk/pop sound to it that really gives it legs. Darn fine pickin'. Maybe a tad heavy on the chorus effect on vocals? Funny comment from me tho cuz I always over do that. Great song art. Thanks for including the lyric, description, hardware and sw. Thanks for sharing. 8788

Solid sound
Yes, a little repetitive. The bridge comes a little late. But
the instrumentation is solid and well mastered.
Surprisingly good for GB. The vocals are a little laid back
and sometimes the backing voices are slightly out of
cadence, but that might be seen as keeping with the
sentiments of the song. More like an excellent live
performance than a polished 45 RPM record. I'd like to
hear the lead voice move front and center with some
pathos-drenched solo passages full of energy welling up
from the gut. There needs to be some variety in the
melody toward the end of the song to ramp it up. "Loving
you is killing me." Sing it like you really want to impress
her with that fact.

Really
liked this song cool lyrics and performance. Sounds like
something you'd hear on the radio. Looking forward to
more great tunes.

Comments Dead On!
Thank you so much for the comments. I have to say they
are dead on and useful. I hear what you all are talking
about too. Melody needs some variation, it does get
repetative. I thought about moving the bridge up as well.
I did three vocal tracks and they are slightly out of synch
in a few places.

Your helpful comments more than make up for that 3!

loved this one!!!
This one actually reminded me a lot of Wilco - especially if
it had some wacky synth in it... really, check out their
album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot... the vocal harmonies are
great. and i love the tone and bounciness of the acoustic
guitar. the only critique i'd offer is that occassionally i get
the sense that the acoustic guitar is a little off time. but
don't knock your lead playing -- very tasteful and fit the
song like a glove. 7798

Lots of melody in there
Kind of reminds me of a little bit of Ricky Nelson.
You have a nice voice for this type of tune.
Haunting melody, that helps alot !

Good luck with your stuff!

Great lyrics
I really like the lyrics on this song. I like your voice, but I
wanted a little more emotion or committment -- you gave
a very even performance (not a bad thing, mind you) but
with heart-tugging lyrics like these, I guess I wanted to
hear what you were saying reflected in more in your
performance.

A really good song, though. The above is just a minor
quibble.

Great country folk rock
You have a great country folk voice, almost perfect. Love
your country articulations in your vocals. This song is
perfect for you. Very nice melody, simple, chromatic,
direct. Another great hook chorus, with a focus on the
main meaning, with that cool "that so bad?" ending; nice
writing. Sometimes when you are doubling your voice,
your doubled vocals flat, which detracts; your voice is
good and you don't need to double it. Its honesty and
and confidence are very compelling. Altho I like the
harmonies.) You have a wonderful sense of melodic
content in everything you do. Very nice combinations of
sounds, textures. Great track.

i'm not here..
because of the pic-honest! not really what i listen to, but i
enjoyed it. lyrics for the regular guy, really pure tune. the
fact that you 'make' all of your music is inspiring. the
latter part of the song seemed like it needed something
additional just before your guitar brought it home.. a light
flute track might have done it (?)
