what a gay song
the "you're so gay" chorus makes this. hilarious and strangely sweet, if i'm allowed to say that without being gay. i'd try to work this into a more realized tune. could be a great camper van beethoven type song.

I've thought about doing some more with this, but I'm afraid of losing the original luster that makes it... also I'm afraid of gay rights activists..

Every gay friend I've ever had used the term as loosely as I do. But that might have more to do with the goofy, loosy group I hang out with. I bet he loves the song.

ANYWAY, this song is fun. Sounds great to me. Love the call and response ending.

What's this
all about? Is it about deflecting aspersions cast your way if so, I'm sorry you had to go through that. I can't believe in this day and age people think this is GOOD and 'like it'. Where have they been living in a cave? I think I'l write another song and call it 'You're a Tw*t' and dedicate it to you.... and your 'friends' who like it......... get some lyrics for crying out loud.... and if you're wondering; NO I'm not; I'm a grandfather and a nice human being. No I didn't forget
there were ignoramuses then as well, but were talking NOW and this is supposed to be a more enlightened age than when I was at school. We didn't have the enlightenment maybe, but we had respect. You put this up NOW, not when you were at school, so it's pointing at a whole load of other people today and saying that they're fair game for a bit of bullying. He probably was laughing to cover his embarrassment; what else could he do with a laughing mob around him. You've already said that you're scared of the Gay right activists, so how do you think Gay's feel with people like you making mock and taking the P*** day in day out. I've had friends commit suicide because of homophobia as well as knowing people who've been badly beaten and why? because small minded people think it's OK to indirectly or directly incite others into belittling other human beings for fun..... and your scared of the Gay activists? so you should be writing statements/ words like that. Why didn't you write something derogatory about yourself, then you might get some praise for being humble instead of arrogant. Write about the goodness of people and life; be positive and not negative and recognise the goodness in ALL people as well as their potential vulnerability. I do think you have musical talent having listened to a couple of your other songs, but come on.... admit when you've gone over the top with poor lyrics, or we might have people going down the road of writing derogatory lyrics about cripples and other minorities next. If you don't understand what I'm meaning here, then you've learned nothing. I would have PM you with this subject but you seem to want it out in the open and now's the time to be counted. I've never blown my top like this before at MJ, but I hate injustice and bigotry and your lyrics are both. Sincerely M

I respect your opinion...
I however do not respect the way you voiced it. The fact is we still live in a free country and we are all entitled to voice what we think, and I'm cool with that. I disagree with you whole heartedly, and I'm ok with you disagreeing with me. I like to joke around, and I think you've taken my song and my comments to other artists out of text. Don't worry I don't hate you, and I don't hate gay people... But I still think it's gross.

Well it's not an opinion
It's the truth and I'm certainly not worried and I truly don't dislike you; not at all. I just dislike your naivety and your sense of what's right. If you can't understand the suffering that it causes after my explanation, then I don't know what else to say. I'm astonished that after this song and your further comments, you are offended by what I'VE said; it's almost laughable. This is my last word on the matter anyway, except that people will read what you say and what I say and we'll both be judged accordingly.... I wish you well. Again I say I don't dislike you at all, just the callous attitude, which leaves me feeling sorry, M

Well said, Moviz
I first noticed this song due to the "Homophobic" thread in the forum. I'm glad Moviz mentioned his objections early on. Perhaps if this song would have had some depth, more length, something like Ur So Gay by Katy Perry, then it would have come across more like a song and less like a punch line meant to simply insult and point fingers.

As someone who has worked most of his life with talented theatre people who are often either Jewish or gay, or both, I am aware of how disappointing it is when "kids joke around" - or adults - thinking that the cloak of being "funny" somehow makes it all ok. In fact, this sort of action may be more hurtful the straightforward bigotry, since it is more insidious. I can't think of one of these colleagues who would laugh at this, or find it worth sharing with others... Growing up gay, and coming out of the closet (closets meant to protect them from jokes like this) often makes a person more courageous than those of us who have never had to fight for who we are with such self-contained integrity. I am glad your "friend" is on that path. (Awkward, that?)

I am glad you are able to express yourself in song. I've enjoyed many of your other posts. I hope you continue to find ways of expressing yourself that can add to the complex tapestry of life.

I took this song as I think you had meant it to be taken - a joke for a friend.Ive worked with chefs some gay some straight in a close hotel environment who use all kinds of humour to get them through and they would appreciate this song as they often dig fun at each other. However due to the issues its raised,I'm jumping off this train.

I hope you have got something positive from the experience.I think if you are going to post a song like this, you either need to be quiet and let people argue the issues out among themselves or have a more dynamic and sensitive point ready to make.Good luck with that.

you're a gay
your song isn't really offensive because you're just a kid and you're writing about things you don't understand and we always poke fun at things we don't understand - it makes them easier to deal with. when you grow up a bit you'll realise that name-calling can be hurtful. some people also poke fun at gays because they are unsure of their own feelings and want to be seen to distance themselves from what it is they are afraid of. i'm sure you didn't mean any harm, but every time someone takes a pop at a minority group humanity stops in its tracks...and personally i would prefer to live in a world where we all just get along and accept everyone for who they are.

So what can we say about you?
It has to be something you have no control about. Your daddy is fat? Unemployed? Ha ha, it's only a joke.

Sorry, I'm not amused. Gay people have been discriminated against, hurt, killed, just for being the way they were born.

It's a free country and you're entitled to voice what you think? Try this: it's not a free country because some people are not entitled to be what they are. (Actually, things are improving. Just not in Idaho.)

I dare you. Write a song saying "funny" things about your sister. See if it's still funny when it hits home.

The problem
with the tune can't be the music, it surpasses a lot of crap i hear, even though the vocals are a bit dull. What the problem is here, is the fact that there is no undercurrent of parody to be found in this song. You are just badgering the gay community. Thus, the Zappa reference is off-mark. He was able to use instruments and his voice in such a way it became apparent that he was doing a parody (like Jewish Princess from the epic Sheik your Bouty or Shake your booty album). Be glad that you weren't kicked off the site, showing your lack of wisdom (knowing others) and enlightenment (knowing yourself) is appalling. Get some life experience, because up till now, you certainly had nothing interesting to tell this community. As my wife says, who the fuck are you? Do you think it would be interesting to hear you sing about how disgusting it is to see someone "tappin some skank"? Since you are apparently disgusted by acts of love or lust by homosexuals. All in all, your talent for music is apparent, your choice of subject is disgusting. Get a real life, son. You could be a star!

High School joke
(Coming here because of the homophobic thread, and after listening to the song and reading Moviz notes).
Because everybody jokes about it you don't have to do it too, right? You are smart enough.
And about freedom of speech you need to know that there are limitations on the freedom of speech (google specifically for "hate speech").
And if you are taking cover on the parody genre (as somebody suggested), well, the song needs to be funny enough so everybody can see the joke.
High school, hate, jokes... check the father of your "friend" is not member of the NRA... don't know why that thought crossed my mind.
This is a quite old song, so the damage is done.
Please, use your gift responsibly. Next time.

I guess I should add...
... that homophobia is not something I tolerate, but neither is positive action/discrimination, which many people where I live are victims of, just as many are beneficiaries. The freedom to express an opinion which may offend is something to be cherished. The day I know there's nothing anyone can say that might offend me will be the day I know we lost any hope we have of freedom.

Kudos to the truth
Way to just put the song up anyway, forget all the stupid politics that surround WHATEVER you're writing about. I have mad respect for you for being true to yourself this way. That's a rare true quality that too many musicians need but don't realize. Not trying to take a side or anything, I respect all peoples of today's society, but I'm a believer, and if history teaches us anything, just look at the burning of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Also, from the non-biblical point of view, Nature gives us the "nonverbal hint" within the "human anatomies" that "clues" that reproduction isn't meant to work this way. Another thought...what if it's YOUR child? Anyway, I guess I am taking a side now, so I apologize to anyone who is offended by this, but at least you've been warned, if you even care at all. Anyway, fun song, you can't deny the truth no matter how society tries to dress it up!

The music is simple but effective. I didnt find the song to be as offensive as some did but then again, it isnt referring to me. Just sounded like a song seeking shock value. Life lessons
By now you know what it feels like to have a lot of people proclaiming how disgusted they are of you, attacking you, and dragging you from the closet of obscurity into the harsh light. If you have any self-awareness, you'll understand why it's good for you to feel this pain.

You claimed this was "humor". I'm a professional comedy writer and have also been teaching an online comedy class that is offered worldwide in thousands of colleges. I've said this to show this is more than a "dude, lol" or "pwned" response.

If people are immature enough, and have enough hatred bred into their hearts, they might find this song funny because it espouses a point of view with which they agree. They can also laugh because not laughing might mean exposure (very possible in the case of your gay friend. It's either laugh or be found out). Some will claim to enjoy it simply because so many people are now against it. Some will sidestep the issue of it not being funny and start blathering about "freedom of speech" -- blathering because this song has nothing to do with Freedom of Speech. That particular right has only to do with government censure in the USA, not about posting hate songs on a privately owned website on the World Wide Web. Has the American government tried to take down this song? No? Then take freedom of speech off the table because that doesn't apply here. You should also take parody off the table because parody has to be based on a specific work and this is not. And finally, take any hope of genuine humor off the table because there needs to actually be an attempt at humor for that to apply. This is merely a narrow mind attacking a strata of humanity.

What you're left with is pilot error.

i agree
with most of what you are saying. freedom of speech however isn't just about government censorship, it is a bigger concept than just not being allowed to say certain things. secondly, privately owned website or not, it is a publicly and easily available page. that makes it public. what pilot is not doing is broadcasting it, pushing it down people's throat. thirdly, a parody doesn't have to be based on a specific work (of art), it would rather be based on someone's style. Having said this all, I admire you speaking out and in the way you did. I offered Pilot an acceptable (read legal) way out of the perceived problems. I truly hope you are ok, Pilot. Ok? Try to take a step back and try to appreciate the effort people have put into you. You are a gifted musician.

Response to turtle
There was no reply button for you turtle, so I'm doing so here. I must respectfully disagree on both the freedom of speech and parody points. FOS is only a "right" when it fits into the constitutional definitiob, In that case, it is indeed freedom of speech from government censure (and only pertains to the USA). Macjams, however, is a privately owned website and therefore the owners get to make the rules. Being "publicly... available" doesn't matter. Just as a restaurant can refuse service to the shirtless and shoeless, so can a website have a terms of service. That means your "freedoms" fall within the boundaries set forth by the site owners and even then posting here is a privilege, not a right. Simon and Miguel can shut down any account they want and they don't need so much as an explanation. That's not censorship. That's the landlord foreclosing.

As for parody, by definition it needs source material. That can be someone's style, as you stated, but who is that someone? I could discern no source material being parodied here. Granted, I don't know every piece of music ever written, but parody only works if the audience can identify the source material being mimicked. If you can tell me the source, I'll happily concede this point. To me, it sounded like someone attempting to write an original song that espoused his own personal negative view of gays. That's not parody. That's not even humor. That's bigotry.

I appreciate your reasonable approach, turtle, and wish you the best. I won't comment any further about the little pilot boy because of the age-old adage, "If you can't say anything nice..."

First of all,
Might I say that I feel absolutely, positively no remorse whatsoever for this song. None. I don't care how many people attack it or what you call me. Am I ignorant? Maybe. Foolish? Possibly. Retarded? Absolutely. But ya know what? It's who I am, and I'm not the least bit sorry for it. If I cared a little bit more about your negative opinions I might have responded to each of you individually addressing your concerns. But since it doesn't bother me that much this is all you get.

I would like to say however, that it is an honor so many of you have gathered together to try and destroy my sense of self worth. And for what? What is your goal? To get me to never come back? I havent even been on this site in months.. That can't be it.. Perhaps to stop me from writing more incredibly offensive songs?.. I've only got the one.. That can't be it either.. So you're goal must be to just piss me off. Which I gotta be honest, if I personally knew you and respected you on a humane level that may have worked. But I don't know you or respect you. So as far as I'm concerned you can attack me all you want. You're waisting your breath, and your time.

And any of you that actually took offense to this song I have a message for you... You are retarded. A self righteous idiot who has nothing better to do then search the internet and confront those who will never meet you. Don't act like you know me. Don't tell me I'm better then this or that I've surely learned my lesson by now. I am who I am. And I have no desire to be accepted by those of you who think you can change me.

Lastly, no gay person has actually commented on this song. Everyone has said, "I know a gay person, so I feel I can speak for them." Get over yourselves. Douches.

i commented on your song earlier
so...what you're saying isn't true because i am 'gay' - well...by that i mean i stand somewhere on a bell-shaped curve representing the demographic for sexual orientation. i say that because as soon as you label people (with anything) then you set them apart...and that is how minority groups are created in the minds of the majority. if you remove all labels then what you are left with is people....just people.

Ryan, you said you wrote this for a friend and your friend liked it. That's all I needed to know about it. But I didnt need to be accused of something by someone who has no idea who I am.
