Description
It's not unusual of late for me to post then find things that I want to change. So it is with "Marathon". Thanks to my friends who already commented on the first post. I noticed that some French Horn lines where lost in the first mix. I also think this is a stronger more vigorous version.

The name Marathon comes from the legend of Pheidippides, a Greek messenger. The legend states that he was sent from the battlefield of Marathon to Athens to announce that the Persians had been defeated in the Battle of Marathon (in which he had just fought), which took place in August or September, 490 BC.

It is said that he ran the entire distance without stopping and burst into the assembly, exclaiming (Nenik├ękamen, 'We have won.') before collapsing and dying.

I'm
happy you gave this a listen Bill. And the pic actually goes back to a time when those events took place. Glad you liked it.

Broad and Cinematic
The opening horns are a clear wake-up call. The subsequent horn theme is really solid here Charlie, and I love how you contrast it with the strings to propel the piece with urgency. Solo trumpet gives the piece a lightness, like the swift footed messenger. This is contrasted against the serious nature of his message that is crafted by the weight of the rest of the orchestra. The ending is also well timed - I was curious as I was listening how you were going to do it and I think you nailed the runner's final moment!

You
always articulate so well what I'm trying to do Doug and this is no exception. I did have some trouble with this piece - certain elements and the mix need to be improved but I'm happy you found the content worthy.
Thank you my friend,
Charlie
