I have a young cousin that plays the guitar. He and his band are very good and just recorded their first CD. This is one of the songs from their Cd. The play mostly gospel and jazz. Four guys age ranging from 17-20.

I will be creating a account for them soon. Please comment and let me know what you think.

Throwback late night jazz
Love to hear new jazz players. I like the light and joyful playing. Your cousin also looks great in that suit. Break a leg on the CD and budding career!

The recording is nice and clear, with a bright and transparent quality which I enjoyed. The song itself has almost a dated quality to me, harkening back to mainstream soft jazz at the beginning of the George Benson era. I would've liked more variations/substitutions in the e pno comping, and perhaps a hint of piano soloing in certain areas, like the 1:20-1:46 section. The drum snare has a slight room sound in my speakers, if it's individually miked consider a brighter EQ on just the snare. Also, the section at 3:49 seemed to try and create a variation in harmonics, yet the tonal center never changed and the piano never quite took center stage, which is kind of what my ears wanted, at least for a moment. I liked how the drums created a build out of that section, tho (even tho it could've set up the transition better and maybe broken the straight beat up with more of a drum solo feel at the beginning of that section - I wanted polyrhythms and more cymbals at 4:00, less tempo-keeping; then the build might have been even more dramatic once the driving snare came back in).

Very nice guitar playing. Very enjoyable track. Just wanted to lend some advice, fresh ears. Best of luck to them all.

Smoooth... sounds full and bright. Good recording studio obviously. The break at 2:20 is likely a good place to explore... understand that this is studio, but live I can feel that this song would be most fun.
