Description
When I saw the closing date for MJRF2010 was Feb 14, the choice of songs from my first year seemed pretty clear. This is the first time I've revisited a song after more than a week to take another crack at it. Would have liked a bit more time cause it was kind of fun.

The original used my friends Gretsch for rhythm and lead. This one has an acoustic with my bargain basement Epi Dot for lead. And a drum beat for curiosity's sake.

Nice
guitar playing and sound but it ends abruptly at 1:28. Was that intentional or did it get cut off?

Yeah
That was intentional. I guess I could have been more elegant, but my Mac was misbehaving and the deadline loomed.

Thanks for dropping by for a listen though!

Short & Sweet
Thanks McBoy. I've been listening to a few of your pieces lately and it's inspiring me to get a little more robust with my constructions, not to mention sending me back to the woodshed!

Pete
As usual, Fine guitar work. I like the melodic work here and at one point the guitars seem like they are doing harmony. I agree with the others about the ending being abrupt.
Nice,
Stephen

Melody
Hey Stephen, thanks for dropping by again, and I appreciate the melodic appreciation! As far as the harmony goes, I guess it is a penchant of mine to go off on a different track with secondary guitars and fit another line in there. They aren't necessarily classic harmonic approaches but it sounds good whilst I play so in they go!

Something about acoustics and electric guitars together, cool music!

Blend
It's hard to describe, isn't it? I guess they are brothers that fit together despite my best efforts!

acoustica
nice mix of electric and acoustic here, you kept the electric from overpowering the acoustic, cool. Needed to pull the ending out a little more so it didn't get chopped, but other than that, great playing, and nice tune!

Balance
Thanks Drak. All I do is guitar so I'm glad it's finally starting to pay off that I know how to blend the two. It's got me thinking about what the next step should be to broaden my horizons.

Anoyone got a tuba out there? ;-)

I think you get great tone...
...from that Epiphone of yours, Pete... And that gets brought out in the harmonized lines....

I also like the sound of electric lead against acoustic rhythm...

Epi
It is a different beast from my usual strat caterwauling. And a far cry from my friends Gretsch I was lucky enough to play with when I recorded the original version of this. Your encouragement on that song was a big MJ moment for me actually.

Yeah, there is a wide tonal spectrum to play with on those Epis.

Longer
I wish I had more time to make all my songs longer. I go into the studio knowing that if I lay down a soundbed any longer than 2.5 minutes it's never going to get done. With the MJRF deadline approaching had to make it even shorter!

thoughtful rocking...
Love the echoey guitar. How did you get that? Are you using a pedal or effects inside GB? Like the double tracked guitar at the end. Very nice as ever...

Plain ol' Garageband
I'm still rocking the Glam guitar setting of GB2. It might be slightly tweaked but it's basically the same setting as Down To Nothing w/Smokey Bacon Jr (feat. Drew Roberts). Speaking of which, let's collab again!
