Funny story that somehow ended up on National Radio.

Well, kind of. And of course I've had very little to do with that, but bear with me. Imagine you're trying to get some rest and there are people living a few walls from you who enjoy making noise all night. About a year ago I had that problem and it went on for a few weeks. One night it was all too much and I was exhausted, angry and at my wits' end. The only thing I could come up in my pathetic state was turning on my music gear, putting on my headphones and creating a musical world I could escape into. That was after 3am and the session, which is the unedited post above, ended with morning birds invoking a new day and I could finally close my eyes for a couple of hours.

A while later a good musician friend from Canada tells me about his new CD project and sends over some guitar tracks - and I was inspired to play around with them since I had found this interesting combination of instruments that night.

Pavaka - the bass and guitar player I talking about - specializes in arranging Sri Chinmoy's soulful and haunting melodies and performs them with great skill and charisma. And although he was initially not exactly happy with me adding synths to his otherwise studio recorded tracks, he kindly added it as a bonus track. That's what friends do:)

To make a long story short - the other day I got a message that Canadian National Radio picked up that particular track and played it in full length after saying a few wonderful things about the composer of the songs. Somewhere in a time slot between Stevie Ray Vaughan and Peter Gabriel. I have no experience with that kind of thing but I assume that getting airtime like that is pretty cool.

The song is called 'Ami Habo' and if you're interested in Pavaka's album (much better than this post, trust me) you'll find it on iTunes and CDBaby. It's the one with the red cover. I've heard him perform Track 10 live - by himself (JamMan). Brilliant.

Sometimes good things can come out of the most difficult or peculiar situations, as long as we never give up. Or something like that:)

Your soul shines through
Your music, as always, brings me to the place I wish to be as I compose. Your skill with the tools at hand is formidable, which serves to enhance your obvious connection to your heart. In other words, your inspiration is supported by great skill, and that combination of assets creates music that comes from the deepest part of you and touches me and many, many others.

Thank you for your music, Mr. Parichayaka.

Soothing... Impressive accomplishment!
Remarkable that something so calming can emerge from such a trying situation. I suspect many of us can relate to the frustration of being unable to sleep due to neighborly racket — in fact, wasn't loud music at night used as a form of torture by the US military in Iraq (and previously in Panama, against Manuel Norriega)? — it's enough to drive most of us to loose our cool and do something rash. Very few people could take this state of mind and turn it into something positive, but you certainly did! Amazing! BTW, my 5-year old was sitting next to me as we heard your track, and he said "I really like that music!"

Me too.

And now I've bought it
This was mellow and cool, amazing under the circumstances. But I was curious about the Ami Habo too so I went over and bought it on iTunes, and I don't regret it. Very nice piece, if rather different from this with the guitar and all. Thanks for sharing. Always great with a new post from you.

Take care,

Curiosity embodied
This music brings to mind a curious traveler, happy, enjoying the journey, and looking intensely at everything.

I adore the "molten flute" sound you have in there, that is VERY nice. The occasional piano notes ring out like brilliant rays of sunshine. Very nice.

Thank you for the story above, and congratulations on the radio airtime and being on your friends' CD!

Brahma Muhurta
is considered by hindus to be a time at around 3AM or aproximately 2 hours before sunrise and is recommended as a best time for meditation. So I guess those qualities have a lot to do with your piece and to me it really evokes such spirit. I like very much that merging of a mild quiet static motion with the positive and rising atmosphere in that. Nice listen!

That is an exciting story! I am very happy for you. I think exposure and some inspiration could really push you out there. Your music does have a "food for the soul" quality to it. This piece too carries that character. It would be a wonderful thing to share your music with a much wider audience. I for one think that the world is missing out on what you have to share.

i've lost count
of how many times i've listened to this since you posted it, and i'm sure to listen to it many many many more times. it has a gentle, warm rocking motion - so easy to hear this as a peaceful place of escape. exceptional work on the percussion especially, pari. it's all perfectly placed to keep the flow of the piece without ever feeling overwhelming or persistant. this is gorgeous and such a soothing balm. thank you.

A beautiful soundscape in my headphones right now. I'm usually not a big fan of synths, but when performed with good skills and used as a musical instrument to add a feeling or mood I can enjoy them. Here you have made a perfect soundscape to add mood and room to the guitars. It sounds very good to me. Great to hear about this one having radio play as well. Must have been very cool for you to experience that :)

Lemonade from Lemons
You have made sweetness from something which started out sour, and so we enjoy the results of your nocturnal labors.

This has many flavors of sound mixed together, and throughout this meditative music, the insistent, constantly pulsing beat reminds us that there is a vibrant city outside your window, teeming with people and many energies, which never sleeps.
