Flat World Folded - Untitled (live)

Get Flash to see this player.

Something from the vault:
Here is a largely-improvised, live, instrumental track from my old band, Flat World Folded, recorded in 2004.
Credit must go to:
Dave Moorhead - Guitar
Martin Barnes - Drums
Pete Graham - Bass
Me - Guitar & masturbatory e-bow
Brendan Macpherson - MD recording

This was originally just a mono recording on a MiniDisc, but I ran this through Garageband and fleshed out the track with EQ, reverb, and a little compression.

The video below was shot in 2005, whilst I was working in Japan:

Great improvised song. That's not easy to do; you guys pulled it off well.

Nice one.

If I remember right...
we had a very basic skeleton outline for the track and just played to feel. good fun but that kinda thing really soaks up your rehearsal time! anyway, good fun and I miss that band.

nice music & video...
This cleaned up well, good strong bass sound, and although the drums are a little tinny sounding, they come through well and are well played. Ooh, caught a glimpse of a castle on a hill, was that Hajime castle? (I saw it decades ago)
Love the guitar lines in this... the minor/major flips in the beginning were cool.

good catch
that was Osaka Castle, very impressive on the outside but a painfully modern museum on the inside. I never got the chance to go inside an authentic, ramparted castle, but the 'nightingale floor' at the single-level Nijo Castle in Kyoto was pretty cool: 'squeek squeek' damn, I'm not a ninja!

Great to hear you with a band, old or no. Like the meandering evolving quality of this improv. Nice.

I grew up on Dire Straits, Def Leppard, Phil Collins, Paul Simon, and Eric Clapton. Then I discovered heavy metal. [long pause] Did the post-rock thing for a while, thinking my 'tortured' soul could could only express itself in chaotic guitar crescen... [see more]
