I'm not sure if I'm happy with how the mastering came out but I figured it's time to let this one fly and get some feedback on it. I recorded the 'robot' voice using Audio Hijack Pro to record my Apple's system voice and then added some effects to it. The track is pretty simple compositionally but I hope people will enjoy it!

Bright and shiny
This was very enjoyable Adam...it's a good example of "less is best"with just several elements at play and I rather liked your vocalized effects (and I've heard all kinds, but the one you worked in here was something of a novelty and very unique for sure!) Good job--liked it very much!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting Michael #1! I'm glad that you liked the vocal effects. I wasn't sure if they 'worked' or not.

nice one
don't you love audio hijack pro? anyways, back to the song: love that bass part, super cool. and the mastering sounds great. listening to this at work on speakers and it sounds pro to me. i really like that effect on the words yes" at about 1:30. too much to list, suffice to say this is great (loving that glitched bass).

I'm finding Audio Hijack pro to be pretty useful for certain things. I'm glad you think the mastering sounds good. I've been reading Bob Katz's book 'Mastering Audio' and in the book he says some really interesting things that I'm trying to incorporate and improve upon. As always thank you for listening and commenting Michael #2!

Simple piece of music, maybe, but it still is very catchy, and the disturbingly alluring robot voice that "just might" is the 3-in-1 oil on the sprocket, the perfect touch... love it. BTW, did you see Doofy's forum thread answer on how to get the system voices recorded to AIFF for free via the "say" terminal command? :-) As for mix, this sounds pretty darned clear to me. The "muffled echo" of the voice over in my left ear was the only thing I might lose, it was distracting.

Thanks for listening and commenting Drak. Yes I saw Doofy's post on recording system voices directly using the terminal so I might have to give it a shot to see if it's any easier. I was going back and forth on the 'muffled echo' effect and had thought that it was even in both the left and right channels but maybe I changed the panning on accident or something. If I remix/remaster this I'll probably lessen the effect. I just didn't want it to scream 'this is an Apple system voice!'

I'm finally getting around to some of the songs I missed over the past few months!
This has a good groove, and, although it's probably not my preferred style, is a good listen.
As far as the mastering goes, I think the mix could probably do with some serious grunt being added. I'm not sure what Record and Reason have available, but if you happen to have Ozone lying around somewhere there are lots of interesting presets that would blast this out of the arena. But that's just what I'd do.
But a cool track nonetheless.

Thanks Neil!
Thanks for taking a listen Neil! I just upgraded to Ozone 4 not too long ago but haven't played around with it much. I used it on this song but very lightly. I'll check out some more presets. Again, thanks for the listen even if this isn't your preferred style! I'm hoping to move house in a couple months and I'll have my drums set up so I'll be going back to writing more guitar based rock songs. Should be fun!
