Pelicans

Description
Second in the bird series. Pelicans are such unlikely creatures; ungainly and ugly as they waddle around on land, yet full of beauty and grace when they take to the air, or when they are fishing in unison as a group. The ultimate team fishermen!

This short ambient tune is my homage to the pelican. There are nine tracks altogether, a combination of Zebra 2 and Albino 3 soft synth voices. I hope you might like it.

Hi Dave.........
The music fits the subject for me. Lovely textures depicting slightly ungainly beauty and grace when flying/gliding. Your description of the birds is perfect.

Loved your choice of instruments. Levels and productions excellent as always.

Take care.

Thanks Paul
I watched some stuff on YouTube [research!] When they are fishing as a group, it's quite amazing how they all work together. It looks quite spectacular. Synchronised fishing!

Thanks again.

Thank you
I am going to try to get four or five together for this set. I may try for the Arctic Tern text. That amazing little bird migrates from the North Pole to the South, and back again every year. How do they do it?

I agree with you about birds being inspiring. They are quite special, imo.

Thanks again for your kind words.

I can't forget
seeing a group of pelicans fishing near here - one caught a huge fish (must have been at least 3 kilograms) and then spent 10 minutes trying to dissuade the others from helping him/her swallow it.
But I digress!
Love these series that you do Dave - fantastic sounds.

That's a big fish! We don't get pelicans in the waters around the UK, but I've seen them elsewhere. Nearest we have are gannets, and I've been up close to them when they are diving for fish. Spectacular!

Cheers!

Beguiling
And a welcome treat to my ears first thing in the morning. Very refreshing with that golden horn out front leading the way. Very good work here!

Thanks!
Just replying to earlier comments and this popped up! Yes, the horn sound is really nice. It's a tweaked preset from the Zebra, and I've used it in a couple of other tunes. I do tend to go back to certain sounds that I like. Maybe it's a bad habit, but then again, maybe it's my style!

Thanks again.

Wonderful
Engaging, yet tranquil and it sets up some great images in my head. If you'd done this a few years ago, David attenborough might have used it! Cheers Mark

I was going to start number three this weekend, but there has been too much football on the TV. I'm all footballed out, in fact!

Thanks again.

Some inspiration for you
I know just the bird you'll have to make a song on/with. Actually more or less every song could be said to be just that, since it seems able to mimic just about any sound. Please watch and listen to the Lyrebird on YouTube (Hope that one works.) /H

Hehe!
You could get some great delays and echo effects, if you went into the lyrebird's cage with your guitar/sax/keyboard and did some recording!

This is a really cool piece. I love the lead synth. Very soft...perfect for this song. Lots of wonderful layers here. I'm getting the feeling of the ocean! Nice work!

Thanks
I live a stone's throw away from the ocean [well, the Irish Sea anyway!] I like listening to the sounds, though there are no pelicans around these parts!

Thanks for stopping by and your kind comments.

the birds
Well, the birds outside my window are singing along to this. Lovely mellow stuff to start my Monday morning.
I just noticed there's a google ad under your software list for a fish restaurant guide for people who like to eat fish sustainably.
It must have picked up on the pelican reference.
Anyway, lovely stuff. Cheers

Haha!
Fish restaurants eh? I wonder if the pelicans eat them sustainably? They most likely do. It is we who mess up the oceans. There's one up there now for "adopt a bird", btw, to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. Maybe I will join.

Thanks for your very kind comments, once again.

pelicans
Very much enjoying this bird series. This has a very Eastern feel to it - I think the scale you used probably - combined with that lead synth that sounds a little like a soft jazz sax to me. A very interesting combination - and one that works very well to give a complete picture of these birds. Lovely flow and pace to this piece. It's very soothing and gentle.

Morning song
It sounds like the sun breaking on an idealized Japanese fishing village. Beautiful, clear tones, with the Albino sparkle. I see (hear) that you've portrayed the graceful aspect of pelicans. They are such confident flyers. Animals are such wonderful inspirations for music. Really nice, but I would have liked to hear an extended version that grows in intensity. I hope you will take that as a compliment, not a complaint.

Stately
Softly gliding on the winds, scooping up fish, that's the life. This tune is a great tribute to the majesty of the pelican. Even though they, as you say, waddle...
