Description
Whew!! So here's a song that has taken me a long time to produce, not because it was
hard, but because I dont have as much time for music as I have in the past. I am fairly
happy with the results, but there are some mixing issues.
This song is for all of us that have at one time or another been told to get their S***
together. I see life as a series of doors that we choose to open
or leave closed as the case may be, and some of the closed doors are our regrets,
feelings of sadness , hidden truths that we keep from others, hurt we have caused
loved ones etc.etc. Often we help these people, when the best thing we can do is
let them figure out which door leads to the truth, so that they may find
out there is a way to get to the other side, and eventually find happiness.

Music and Lyrics By Robby Rhodes (except for the Drums and sax, those was loops lifted from
Sequel 2 By Stienberg)

Lyrics
There will be a brand new dawn
If you just hang on
The sun will shine on you
Again my friend
You've recieved this message before
You just refused to open the door

And just when you think you're on the right track
It's one step forward and three steps back
You should'nt complain but you always do
You're always tryin to bite the hand that feeds you

You were once a man and now your a child
You were looking for answers to fall from the sky
The future is so uncertain now
Unless you can just learn how to be free

Just open the door of your truth

Don't dwell on the past
If you want to survive
A diet of self pity
Can't keep you alive
But you've recieved this message before
You just need to open the door

Ahhhhh Look for the truth

Feel the sun on your face
Let it dry your tears
You'll feel a warmth in your heart
You havent felt in years
The future looks much brighter now
Because you have just learned how
To be free

Cool! I Think That LSD is Finally Kicking In
Great late 60's vibe. Guitars scream Hendrix and Clapton. The vocals scream Cream. There's a little Steppenwolf in there as well. Killer sax solo. 4 star retro-rocker.

Thanks
for the nice compliments, as for the acid, I tried it 5 times and three of those trips were really rough, so with those odds I decided maybe this is not the drug for me! Yikes! Always interesting to hear who people compare your music to, sometimes I hear it and sometimes not, but I'n not sure if I'm worthy of those kings of rock, thanks all the same man!

Excellent job
Robby! Kick ass song bro'! I like it a lot.

The guitar is especially tasty.

I really like the vox and the harmonies on the vox as well. I like the way the vocals are mixed. Good stuff man.

Door Of Truth
This kind of reminds of the Who. Definite 60's vibe. Cool guitar lines. Vocals/harmonies are good. Mix is well balanced, and all the instruments are sitting nicely.

Right
On Dave, thanks man, I disagree on the mix though, I use Sequel 2 for software, and I never have been able to avoid a slightly muddy sound to a lot of my recordings, I cant afford anything else right now, so I'm stuck until I fig this out. Thanks!

Great song
and great guitar work. I like the singing & lyrics too. The mix feels a little compressed (at least in headphones) but overall it is really clear. This is a lot of work, getting the music, lyrics, drums, playing, singing... great stuff! Welcome back!

Thanks for listening!

Retro rock production
What can I say? This rocks, you seem very passionate about this subject.. what is the truth? Where is the other side?
I like the fact that the production fits with the style, very well done!

Bass
is tricky for me, I don't have one. I create bass sound by using the octaves stomp box in my line6 gearbox software, really hard to get an authentic bass tone from that, and I get big clips if I tweak it too much. Best I can hope for is a deep bass "sound"in key, not much tone variation to play with.
Thanks for your input Vic!

hi robby. this transported my back to when i was a kid and my brother was playing robin trower all the time. this is real pro creation and production....and excellent lyrics. love the ´free´ section from 1.30. the sax bit is great too. i usually hate ´rock´....but i like this....why? is it the song...or is it you? maybe i just love you man. i am in spain...and the sun is beating down...and i just got up and listened to this. my dad is complaining about the noise...it´s like being a teenager again. yay! rock on robby.

Airplane-ish
Cool harmonies, nice rocker. Some odd spots on the drum kit (sort of), but it's better on subsequent listens... Good to hear from you.

Drums
are such a time consumer, editing loops to get fills in the right spots etc wears me out. I usually get impatient and post with lots more to do yet on the drum loops. Luckily the average listener still cant tell they are loops, lol.

Like the harmonies you incorporate here. Cool rockin guitar riffs. This reminds me a bit of something The Who would have done. Cool tune!

The WHO!
I can never escape that comparison, good thing they are my alltime FAVORITE BAND! So I dont mind. I hear old Who though, like some of the stuff from "Sell Out", Townshend was always a huge fan of the Beach Boys, and thats where he got his ispiration for his harmonies. Thanks Charles, always good to hear from you.

Glorious
A fantastic sounding song. Alternative? It actually feels like some Classic Rock. In a good sense. Too much "alternative rock" is wilfully whiny and simplistic. This is sophisticated. Yet solid.

Blow-out the 6x9s!
I kinda wanna crank-up a little more mid and treble but really that's probably just some attempt to recapture the feeling of blowing-out the old 6x9s in my once-new 1975 Honda Accord (which died looking more like an accordion). The mix is deep and rich. Sounds GREAT LOUD. Sax is unexpected and the whole thing sounds ready for radio -- but with some appreciated headspace. GOOD MUSIC will come back... maybe it's just good music radio that's left us. (I just wish you kept the jam going instead of giving us 28 seconds of silence at the end.. D'oh!)

silence
was unintentional,I didnt realize at the point of extraction that I needed to trim off a little more time, oh well. I assume people can tell with the fade that the song is over. Not too sure about radio ready, but I do thank you for saying so!
Thanks for the listen.

Rockin'
Great tune, with some way cool riffage. Great playing and you get some great tones out of that Line 6.

Regarding the muddy mix, it sounds like a lot of reverb and delays are conflicting with each other. Not sure what the solution would be, but perhaps ensuring the millisecond delays are timed with the tempo of the song. If you listen to the vocal echo after "...door of your truth" it sounds ever so slightly off the beat. It's not much, but if this is going on with several instruments it could add up, causing that muddy atmosphere.

Good to see another rocker around here!

Muddy
is my middle name. I have a bad habit of FX overkill, I really do need to record dry more often, but It sounds so great at the time I'm playing that I forget to listen with someone elses ears, and I keep it. I actually did'nt know that that stuff would create such a noticeable problem in the final mix. I really could use a crash course in audio engineering.

I have been playing guitar from the age of 15, I grew up surrounded by good music. My parents were hippies durring the 60's and 70's, I credit them for most of my creative energy. I had fantasies of being a Rock Star at the age of 10, the first album... [see more]
