Fripp-Floyd-Budd (An Ambiental Mix)

This is an experiment following on from those that Bryn shared a couple of weeks ago. I have been in dialogue with Bryn regarding this sort of experiment and this mix is an isolated experiment in sustained-guitar-like sounds, with homage also paid to Fripp, Harold Budd and, of course, Pink Floyd/David Gilmore (especially his In Concert DVD and his Live at the Royal Albert Hall DVD's).

The method used in my experiment was to feed MIDI data through a single instance of a PAD preset and see what came out. The MIDI data had information for three synth parts, percussion and a chord sequence, so that is probably why there are sparklies and artifacts of melodic lines in the mix. Maybe. If you want any more information, PM me your email address and I'll send you the document I put together for Bryn.

If anyone wants to do anything with this (and share it on MJ's, feel free).

As always I'm interested in your thoughts about my excursions into the Void.

I really like your pieces, you are never afraid to experiment & that's the beauty of creating in the first place.

This is very cool, it's kind of Ambient/Electronica. Makes me feel like I'm traveling through space. Great stuff!

Hi Dani.....
The mix started out as a backing track to 'yet another one' of my mixes but because of the recent experiments in Fripp sounds I mentioned it in the write-up to my last upload. This is just the part that sounded, to me, Fripp-like. It is not the same as in the previous track even though I used all the settings on the soft synth that I had before as well as the same midi sequence. The difference is there because of the slowly evolving LFO's and their almost random start/stop points.

Thanks for stopping by. It's always good to know someone has listened to this type of stuff. I'll go back to normal-strange now!!

Take care.

Experimental music is any music that challenges the commonly accepted notions of what music is. There is an overlap with avant-garde music. John Cage was a pioneer in experimental music and defined and gave credibility to the form. As with other edge
