Sonata Pathetique: Rondo (Solo Ballad)

Description
Here's another piano solo track from my new album, "Beethoven Jazz." Controller is Yamaha P-120, piano sounds are Synthogy Ivory Steinway. I played this piece in college, "straight." I think the melody also works very well as a slow, expressive jazz ballad.

Wow!
Talk about good timing... We just studied this piece (well, Beethoven's version, actually) in my analysis class yesterday, so it's very cool to hear your jazz version right after that. I like it; very soulful. Did you give any thought to incorporating any of the other thematic material from that movement?

Thanks, Clark
Clark, thanks for your kind words. I think I would enjoy being in your class. I did 14 of these Beethoven pieces, and for each one, I had to decide how far to go, in using Beethoven's original themes. I decided to keep most of them on the short side, because I am also creating sheet music for each track, for a client I am working with. The idea is that younger students might be attempting to play the pieces (younger meaning pre-college), so it was desirable to restrict the pieces to around two minutes or so, so they would not seem too daunting. So yes, I could have gone farther with this one, but hey, all of life is a study of compromises, right? I am glad you enjoyed it.

Very nice...
...the way you slow down the melody. Very patient. Works so well with the split of the genre. Nice, John...as always.

Hmm, "patient." Never heard that word to describe a track of mine. Very thoughtful. Thanks, GP.

way cool
I so wish I could play like this expressively. I'm not familiar enough with the original but hearing this makes me want to go listen to it. That Ivory Steinway sounds terrific.

Way WAY back...
I remember playing this little number. Your laid back approach is a refreshing take on the original. Hey, and you don't have to pay anyone for permission to arrange this!!! Your sensitive playing is much in evidence here. Don't believe I've heard such a quiet number from you...This is a delightful surprise in every way.
