Description
This was a song written in 1921 by Tommy "Toots" Payne and Benny Franklin and is in the public domain (I often wonder if there are any private domain songs). Anyway, I'm backed by the incredible Alan McPike here and hope you like our version of this. Have a wonderful weekend and keep up the excellent work!

Michael

Say...
...thanks Impsie! And would you believe, I've not "pimped" this once yet? Now that takes great restraint and fortitude, let me tell you! I really enjoyed belting this one out--the ending kind of threw me, but you know how I kind of weasel my way out of those things. I'm glad you liked it--and I hope your health has made a change for the better now! xox Michael

Love the drum track. There's a cool analog sounding edge to this. As always a superb vocal performance!

Lyn Baby!!!!! (Wait...this is sounding familiar!)
I'm really you caught this last deal--my last for a while on this site (I think I'll be joining you at dinky.com for a while as a change of pace and to test out whatever new stuff I come up with, although "new" is "old" with me, natch!) Thanks again you--hope you are bearing up okay with the onslaught of Andy Hardy movies on Turner (although I've been watching the Bowery Boys on there, so things are looking up!) You take good care now and have a good, beautiful-dreamed filled night! Michael

you have hit my achilles heel
I love this song and what you have done with it - I have a wonderful version of this by Mildred Bailey with the superb Mary Lou Williams ob piano. Excellent work.

Thanks Woofer!
Anybody that remembers the great Mildred Bailey is A-OK in my book! Many years ago, when the casinos were first opening in Atlantic City, I briefly met the great jazz xylophonist Red Norvo (he was playing in a lounge at Resorts International--one thing I will always remember was the huge hearing aids he had to use--but he still played as well as ever). As you probably know he was married to Bailey and in the 30s they made a number of memorable recordings featuring an "all-star" line up of jazz stars. I think he was rather happy that a kid my age (at the time) was very familiar with his work (his recording of "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" featuring Mildred on the vocal is still one of my very favorites ever). Mary Lou Williams--another great one! She played with Andy Kirk and his 12 Clouds of Joy, and that's how I got introduced to her, through some recordings of his (the only band that used a jazz flute at the time, as I recall). I'm truly amazed you know these names--whatta relief!! Thanks again and take good care now, Michael

Omar!
Well, I don't know about seeing me perform live! I usually croak these things out Friday or Saturday mornings around 2:00 am in my pajamas and bathrobe with my dog Farina trying to jump on my lap the entire time (this in itself is worth taping maybe!) Thanks again--you take care now and hope all is going well at the cigar lounge! Michael

Saturday morning
This gets me up n ready for some SHOPPING!!!! I hate Christmas shopping. Anything that's makes it a bit easier gets my vote. I'll plug this in my ears to drown out the seasonal tripe. Cheeeeers!
michaeljayklein said 3173 days ago (December 11th, 2010)
Shopping? Did you say Shopping?
Isn't that what amazon.com is all about? In fact, I can't think of anything more excruciatingly horrifying than shopping at the Mall of America here during this time of year. Why, it is so crowded, I bet I could die, not have room to fall down and be carried forth by the throngs (I can see my corpse going up the escalator and stuff this way). Thanks again Ted--you take care! Will be in touch shortly! Michael

First class
as always! You definitely capture the swing era and make it your own. This arrangement has all the glitz of Vegas and the Rat Pack. Is that Marilyn and JFK in that dark corner booth? There's a couple of heavies in tailored suits watching the crowd instead of the show at the next table...
Check out my latest song called Eighty-Three
michaeljayklein said 3173 days ago (December 11th, 2010)
Yes
I get that tableau quite frequently on my things Henry--the two heavies watching the crowd are Carmine Lemoncola and Harry "The Hunchback" Ricabeno. Weirdly enough, I met the notorious Paul "Skinny" D'Amato in my teens when he was a judge at a talent contest I was in (Skinny ran the 500 Club in Atlantic City). All I remember is he reminded me of Norman Rockwell and was very soft spoken--you'd NEVER know! Take care now, Michael

Yes, this arrangement and accompaniment really has a "real" sound to it--the guy does amazing work, it's that simple! Appreciated hearing from you--take good care now (I just finished shoveling for 90 minutes--we got some 2 feet of snow and gale winds to deal with today, bluck!) Michael

Energetic!
By now, I know before I even click on the link to one of your new songs that I am in for a treat! This is polished and bursting with energy at the same time. I think if I ever come across someone having a downer of a day, I'll just link them to this song! A real spirit-raiser. :)

Well, the energy comes easy--it's the singing that takes a lot out of me! I'm glad you liked this song--it's a favorite of mine ! You take good care now and congrats on the smoking cessation (I always love that word, "cessation"--you only hear it within the context of quitting smoking!) Take care now, Michael

Hey James
Sorry I'm so late responding--it's been like that lately, whew! Thanks for those very inspiring words--I strive to improve continually; sometimes I can't tell it's working until I listen back to my junk maybe a year later and then sometimes, I'm still not working it right, but I'll get there eventually--never give up (and I never do!) Thanks again--and take good care now, Michael

Much appreciated! I've learned to tame back that vibrato over time (used to be it was full throttle throughout), but I remember my first vocal lesson and the teacher asked me if I could produce a legitimate vibrato, which I could do. She said that saved us about 10 months of lessons because if you can do that you are singing properly (and here it was I never knew it!) You take good care now, Michael

Hey Dick!
I was hoping to hear from you so that I could wish you and yours a great holiday as well (and thanks for supporting my stuff over this past year--I hope I've been sufficiently able to do the same for you mate--except you post about 1/20 the amount of stuff I do--it just isn't fair! Let's hope that changes in the year ahead, okay? I love the work you do Dick)

Take good care now and MERRIE CHRISTMAS!

I love this
. . . but there is something going on here that I can't quite figure out. I think it is something in the drum track that is distorting or something, but it is slightly distracting throughout parts of this number (the loud phrases). Other than that it is great and you of course sound flawless.

Yes, you are right on the money about that--I know just what you were referring too! I meant to ask Alan about that but never got around to it--I think something weird happened when it was downloaded by me or something--I'm not quite sure. Anyway, I'm glad you liked this--the song has been around FOREVER and still going strong! Thanks again sir! Michael
