Description
This was a song that originated with singer Helen Kane during the flapper era. The character, "Betty Boop" was based on Kane's unique vocal style. Lord help anybody that listens to this!

Take care now,

Michael

Geeez
I remember when Tina Louis sang this on Gilligan's Island. This is quite a bit more uptempo than that version.

Dude this is great!

I sorta kinda remember her singing this one but as I mentioned below, I sense some might be thinking of the version Marilyn Monroe did too (of course, she put sex into the lyrics where none existed--somehow!) Appreciated hearing from ya--take care now! Michael

Ah, Tina Louise
Hi Michael, I remember the Tina Louise version of this from Gilligan's Island like fasteddie. I'm sorry Michael, but rolling back the years to my young, impressionable self - she wins! For all the wrong reasons :-) Take care, Peter.
P.S. I also wanted Mary-Anne to make me a coconut cream pie.
P.P.S And I still wonder to this day how the Professor had his entire library of scientific books with him?

I think you guys might have forgotten Marilyn Monroe's version of this from "Some Like it Hot" (1959)--which Tina Louise took off in the Gilligan's Island episode. Maybe I can find La Monroe's version on youtube and post it here. Thanks Peter! Michael

michaeljayklein said 3106 days ago (December 15th, 2010)
Hey Dave!
Well, as it stands, the "Book of Routines" is all contained in two very twisted craniums, atrophied from long disuse, but one day, we'll write it all down (I very much believe the thing would sell, believe it or not!) You are too kind my good friend--thanks many times over for your continued following of these old chestnuts I do! Take care now, Michael

Actually, I had written you a hauntingly beautiful response to that comment (it was a very good one and I certainly appreciated it greatly) but I went to delete that first comment you made about "Firsties" and BLOOP! Ha!
What a card you are. In looking back to these golden era gals have you ever heard of Annette Hanshaw? I first heard of her through the animated film "Sita Sings The Blues" (A great short film if you have never seen it). Her music is used throughout the movie.

Thanks Stephen!
Actually this voice is more like my real one--I fake the baritone n' chit on my other stuff! Appreciated hearing from you and yes, I'm familiar with Miss Hanshaw (I've probably read more about her than have heard her sing, but she was good!) Take care now, Michael

Boop boop!
I was just picturing you in a candystriped blazer, cream slacks and shoes and straw boater, swinging a cane. Nice change in the vocals at 0:50, gives it an almost duet feel! And then back into the other voice again - that sigh is priceless!

Stephen!
Man you get around! I caught your remarks by accident really! I remember it was rather difficult to attain a baritone voice just off of that whatever-it-was range I was singing in, so that's nice that you noticed the difference (thank the stars!) Yanno, I'm rather fond of that sigh too--I just thought it up at the time (basically because I did not know what to fill in with that part of the arrangement--this is a Routine #42 in the Singer's Handbook I think). Greatly appreciate your support and listening Stephen--take good care now! Michael

Genre Info
Bebop or bop is a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos and improvisation based on harmonic structure rather than melody. It was developed in the early and mid-1940s. Hard bop later developed from bebop combined with blues and gospel music.
