Stop Looking At Your Feet

Get Flash to see this player.

A new indie song, with some new textures (for me anyway) in the guitars. I've had this pretty much finished for a month or more but I was waiting for some feedback from my favourite sounding board, tempie. Craig recommended fleshing out the chorus with the shakers and cowbell, plus he suggested the backing vox in the verses, once I had these added the whole thing felt more ready for prime time.
The lyrics are one of my favourite subjects, those people who stand by and pretend stuff isn't happening in front of their eyes. As someone who has spent his life getting involved in other people's business (on a professional level) it bugs me to see those shuffling bumbling idiots who can't even express their own opinion. My lyrics these days seem full of vitriol, but hey that's life.

Very Bitter
and twisted, but then that was the idea I think. Good solid tune, lots going on, with the sharp stick of lyrics at the front.

Great tune Paddy - way to tell 'em -
Love the guitars and the way the song goes into a little Clash time feel at the end. Vocals are really solid and the backings were a good idea.

sounds HUGE! Do you have a Fender Mustang? My buddy had one and it would sound like this. loved that Nirvana sound (even though I was never a big Nirvana fan). the Melody is very cool. Especially on the "Don't you know that you don't..." part. Well done!

Fender Mustang
Sorry Eric, but what you hear here is a cheap (sub $100) Chinese LP copy. Thing is, this guitar sounds woeful when tuned eadgbE but drop it into open E tuning and it just rocks the house down. Weird.
Thanks for stopping by, I always appreciate your comments.

LOVE the backups in the verse and the cowbell kills. This is a great tune with a HUGE chorus, one of my favorites. I also dig how you get onto a 3 note riff in your solos and shake it like a terrier a la JMC or the Cure. Those solos were so much fun to play at the high school dance, made you feel like Randy Rhodes.

But where's the download man? Send me the mp3, i want to put this on the ipod.

3 notes
Hey man you know me, 3 notes is about my limit! Glad you're hearing JMC and the Cure here - as you know they are two of my faves. The big chorus is becoming my trademark I guess - I can't avoid it.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in the south of the UK in an Irish family. I had always loved music but was never given an opportunity to explore making it for myself. About 10 years ago I bought an acoustic guitar and began strumming in earnest. To d... [see more]
