I wrote and recorded this song right after I watched "The Apostle". Such a great movie. A world I've always been fascinated by, but never have had the chance to experience. From everybody I've spoken to that has grown up in that kind of environment, it's about as real as it gets. I also had just watched an X-Files episode where Mulder went back in time and played with a Negro Leagues team, or something like that. Can't quite remember. But there was cool, old-timey gospel music throughout.

great stuff
so is this the type of thing that 'dylennon' is going to do? if so i'm a fan. you've got a great voice for this kind of thing, and i love how you don't stylize it at all, just sing it straight. you know who you sound like here? nobody man, just you.

lots of people who grew up in that environment hate it as adults but i love it man, i love it more every year i'm away from it. i fail every time i try to explain myself on that point but i guess it's because it's such a human thing to want a response for all of the self doubt that is such a part of the human condition. and the fundamentalist christian message answers that confusion so beautifully. and also you know, everyday life is tragically boring. and in the fundamentalist evangelical world life is magic, there are eternal consequences to every little move. i was back in my home church for a funeral recently and all the people i hated as a teenager i found that i have a real love for as an adult. good people. psychotic, but good people nonetheless lol!

Good and Psychotic
I watched the Apostle recently. Or some bits. Love it. The rafter burning tunes are my favs, but I'm also a fan of the more reserved tunes. This Dylennon will be more for all my 4-track tapes from yesteryear. This song is about 1998, maybe 1999. Thanks for listening. I love your view on that segment of your life. Makes sense to me, even though I don't necessarily have the same experience. Much respect

Old Time Religion
Hard to play the guitar with your hands in the air. Huh?

You don't need much bro. Your guitar, a few hand claps, your voice....

I look forward to hearing more of this old stuff of yours.
