Tiler's Concerto

Description
This is a piece I composed today with Apple's Orchestra Jam Pack 4.

I overlaid with my acoustic guitar. Adding a little classical guitar style and a tad Concierto De Aranjues feel. Plus a bit of synth oboe.

Well Done!
I don't know if it's my sinus cold or not, but is the guitar
panned far to the side? I felt like it might be better front
and center.

I look forward to hearing more Jam Pack 4 experiments
from yourself and others.

Well Done!
Thanks mungo

It was fun to work with Apple's Orchestra Jam Pack!

I am very new to doing loops, but after I heard that drop dead sounding loop
that I put in the beginning, I got hooked:) It seemed like the hours just flew
when I was working on it.

Thanks

Full of regret and hope. I'm with Mungo, bring that guitar
to the center!

Ya, I guess now I am gun shy of doing any panning:)
Maybe just a hair of moving to the left or right is all that is needed.
I just just checked GB2 and I only moved it about 1/16 to the right.'
I guess I could move it closer with out being on center though.

Thanks for the critique!

Beautiful
Soothing and emotive. Interesting choices in the
production. Panning techniques, sound space...thx.

Beautiful
Thanks Skipper

It seems when working with a loops orchestra. Less can be better sometimes.
I even experimented with slide. I thought it might sound nice. But there
seems to be something about the antique sound that an orchestra makes that
doesn't make the slide fit in with those loops , so I left it out.

I have thought though that maybe someday there will be a slide for the
classical guitar that will be similar to the bow for a violin. It will create
enough friction and stickiness that it will sound good in a classical setting.
I have a feeling that there must be something like that out there.

paning
I tried panning close, but I guess not close enough.
I understand because I got critiqued on that before.
Do you think that I should keep in on dead center? It
seems like when I just pan with a real small increments I
guess it goes off too far. Now I am almost afraid to give it
any pan.

Thanks for making me more aware of that.

I hate having to think of a title.
But I like this piece. Sounds like it would make a good soundtrack for a very melancholy or reflective moment in a movie.

beautiful chords
This piece is indeed reminiscent of Rodrigo. Very nice
chord progressions and orchestration.

I'm excited to hear instruments from JamPack 4 for the
first time!

I couldn't pick out the synth oboe. Did you play it as a
chordal instrument, with a bunch of notes playing
simultaneously? I thought I heard something which
sounded like strings, but more raspy.

There was a "wahHHH-wahHHH" effect, a swelling, to
many ends of notes which sounded unnatural to me. Not
like an orchestra at all. It sort of chopped up the flow in
the phrases, which was a bit distracting.

The ending was a bit sudden, taking away from the more
deliberate, contemplative mood you set throughout the
piece.

This track has good potential; I hope that you work with it
some more.

I took out the last loop and edited it in the midi editor.

It was an interesting piece to work on. For a while I was thinking that I
couldn't go any were with it after dripping the first loop. But after hearing
how gorgeous the the first loop I dropped in was. I just had to indulge :)

Thanks

Go and synth no more...
Just kidding, Tiler. It is great to hear you experimenting
with Jam Pack sounds. I love your live guitar work. The
strings are a little synthetic sounding. I have to work real
hard to make them sound like the real deal...usually
adding more reverb than I'd care to. Possibly by duping a
synth track and putting extra reverb to the second
instance you can get more of a live acoustic sound.

The feeling I get from this is glorious. It is a song fit both
for nobility and the common man.

I sometimes go overboard in the reverb catagory.

It is an art to produce music right, let a lot compose it.
You have to wear many hats here at MJ.

Nice number. Nice mood to this one. Great use of those Orchestral loops...I wouldn't have known they were loops if you didn't mention it. I'm going to have to look into that jam pak. Sounds great.

It was a lot of fun. The acoustic steel string guitar has almost a lute type
quality. The ending part of the guitar I thought blends well with the
backround. There was enough reverb were I thought the guitar fit in.

In the movies
This piece is so beautiful, mezmerizing even. I see it as
part of a movie soundtrack, but I guess that is the
problem with my generation, the only place we think
classical music exists is in the movies. I wasn't real happy
with the ending, it seemed a little abrupt, but that's just a
mnor critique

concerto indeed
To: Suzanne

I know I have studied some great guitar compositions. But I have been terribly
influenced by popular culture. Because I grew up with tunes that were great
hits but not terribly musically challenging, kind of leads me to go for the
melody and leave out the runs and arpeggios. But I have played other
Concerto's and some were brilliant. So maybe I'll try to go for the gusto.

Thanks

To be honest, I didn't think that this piece would generate that many posts.
I just bought Apple Loops Orchestra Saturday before the last one. Slapped it
in GB2, thought this and that would sound good. Dropped in a few Orchestra
Loops and put in a little influence I had on a Rodrigo concerto I had done.
And uploaded. I love the fact that orchestra type sounds are available. I used
to for quiet some time for a certain period, would play "Concerto de
Aranjuez" with my guitar at parks. I learned that piece so well that I would
play it pretty much note for note for people around the park near were I was
living. I would use a cassette recorder and play the piece and overlay live with
my guitar.

I really think that Concerto de Aranquez is the greatest guitar composition of
all time. Of course what I play in Tiler's Concerto is nowhere near as
complicated.

Knew I liked it before I listened!
Your guitar playing is fantastic. Makes me wish I had my
own Tiler to play me to sleep each night. I have to agree
with the slighlty too-synthetic-sounding orchestra
backing. Parts were great, but I think it was the brass
section that needs a more human element. It'd be fun to
do the synth work on your songs... because I often find
myself singing along anyhow. Fantastic!

I love that Loop, too!
Tiler, got your post to my Powerbook Theme. I got hooked on that loop too. Nice to see how two different styles can use the same loop, but bring out different feelings. I'm new to this whole Garageband stuff, but I do play other instruments (piano and guitar), but have yet to figure out how to incorporate them into Garageband.

Anyways, loved your music!
