Late At Night I Like the Possibilities

Just...sketching away.
I like the basics of this tune mainly because it's one of the few, beyond Chopstix, and a Joe Jackson song that I can play without making too many mistakes. I imagine parts like the 'sax' being played by, (or sounding more like) real, and/or other imagined instruments. Any input, musical or otherwise, is always appreciated.

I like it.
I wonder how this would sound with some drumming.

You could find out
I've listened to your current tune and 'Shoe Fetish,' and hearing that you 'wonder how it would sound with some drumming' .. flashes a hope that you, Loob, might want to do something with it? I don't want to be like one of those people on youtube who film their marriage proposal in a shopping mall or some public place - to occasional humiliating results. But I do have the files on GB and they're a pm, and my figuring out how to send them, away.

This is so pretty, very relaxing and flowy. Maybe you can ask a few musicians here to collab with you. Nonetheless, I like it as is.

Good advive
Ravens, thank you for listening and commenting. I think collaborating is where I'm at. Getting loose,
losing self consciousness and learning the ropes of recording. One of the first tunes that truly grabbed me, and still does on this site is 'Am I Making Sense,' with Andrew!

many possibilities
What a beautiful little piece of music. I hear a great deal in this, beyond your (actually quite good) performance. Although the vibra-rhodes sound is pleasant, and the synthasax is OK, they do hint at being replaced with richer sounds. For example, I could hear the rhodes alternating with strings to add some variation, and the sax could be a REAL sax, and it could share the stage with a soft crooning female voice. Although Loob suggests drumming, I dunno, maybe brushes, or no drumming... this is a gentle flowing piece. I do hope you work on building on this, it is great!

like my inner voice
Your comments reinforce and validate my own feelings.
I get what you mean about 'richer sounds,' a real human, playing a real sax, and a confident, expressive human voice emoting. There are wonderfully expressive singers and writers here on MJ's that I'll ask to help when I'm satisfied I have my s%#t together to not be wasting their time. lol. When I hear Loob wonder how drumming would sound... then listen to some of his work, I think: "Wow. What a spice!" I think of one of my tunes, better put, 'sketches,' as a kind of "stock,' where for it to make tasty, soul moving soup, It needs ingredients and spices and textures that are grown somewhere else!

In my personal musical evolution I'm trying to:
1. Recapture playing music before I knew (and wasn't preoccupied with) how much I didn't know, or how good or bad I was.. a state where non-judgmental musical synthesis (a.k.a. experiencing and building musical pictures joyfully) occurred.
2. Learn from good people like yourself, who put out an astounding amount of positive energy.
¡Muchas, muchas gracias!

This has a nice melody
Both your posts have what count... a nice melody. The other stuff will come with time. Play around with midi attack rates, reverb, maybe some subtle delay. You will be surprised how real you can get MIDI sounding. Really nice work here! Keep it up.

Thanks again!
I'm not a natural with technology. There's got to be much better way to get a midi file into garageband, so I can play around with the track. Presently I record tracks on the Yamaha, play them through speakers, and rerecord them (thus in my likely flawed logic, changes the file from midi to aiff.
Your advice, and good wishes are valued. Thanks!

this is expertly conceived and could really take off with some work to make the midi instruments richer (as charles said)...or better still...real instruments from real artists here. the song itself is simple and i thought it was going to be plinky and cheesy....but it's not......it's got a lot of body and soul...and Art as well as heart and sensitivity....which you clearly have much of inside you. lucky man.
