Description
Well I think it might be back to the mayhem of multitracked madness....but I tried to keep a lid on it.I haven't broke out the harp ,banjo or mando for a while and when (if) you listen to this you can tell....I was wondering whether or not to add a bass line to it .....but didn't,and I think that there are the odd (I mean let's face it ,it's all odd )blooper .....but heyho ! Maybe this should go on the Back Porch page !

This is another attempt at an acoustic set of Bluegrass...this time I made sure the instruments were tuned ( Mr Mason )................................

FINALLY!!!!!! great to hear you do out and out bluegrass again, the odd "blooper" doesnt matter as you just ride through it. Enjoyed this immensely.

I was never going to
give a polished performance but this is pretty rough ...listening again I think the banjo is sounding out of tune ...but it was tuned to the guitar with the same tuner ....I think I am going mad !!

I wasn't expecting that banjo! Sounds Bluegrass, Irish, Blues, folk and a whole lotta things all at the same time (which is very cool btw!) What a fab song! Next you'll be telling me you played them all at the same time! =)

Spiffy
Oh there is nothing wrong with this, yes it must be your ears. Do you remember Bob Ross, the painter? He always said, "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents." And, that applies to our music too. It makes us who we are, who needs perfection?

I liked this, and I like the album art, did you draw it?

Smiling!
That banjo sound just kills me every time! Great stuff!

The old swamp and mountain loom large, and other unmentionable things!

Great fun, this. A real treat. In this context a few dodgy notes actually add to the feeling of authenticity (though i haven't heard any yet anyway).

Cheers now

Fun!!
Cool jam... Both the guitar and banjo are a little pitchy, but that is only a mild distraction from what is a nice, organic shindig! Very enjoyable! Free site tip of the day, VERY sensitive online Java-based tuner: http://www.seventhstring.com/tuner/tuner.html I use it before every recording...

Check out my latest song called Door to Babylon
Jarvoid said 3006 days ago (May 29th, 2011)
Not really quite sure what
"pitchy" is or how it is achieved...but clearly it is not a desirable thing to have.

Great tip on the tuner, that will be a saving grace as it seems not to matter how you play the note it just reads true. Thanks for the stop by and the input.

Cheers

"Pitchy"
...is a gentler way of saying "out of tune"... :) My Strat steadfastly refuses to stay in tune, drives me bonkers... So I live on that tuner site, I have a browser session open so I can flip over, tune, flip back, hit record... :)

Now how nice is this?
VERY nice, let me tell you! This was truly and most delightful to listen to Chris; you seem to have no hesitation for trying out little inventive things (you are not out of key--don't change this!) that makes much of your work so pleasing and different from many others. Sounded great (good mix) and thanks for sharing this with us--you go brother! Michael

It is a
strange and wonderful thing when something happens that was not planned or tried for and itseems to work. This is such a piece....I went for a bluegrass sound and came up with this ...I was and still am a little concerned that it seems to go awry tuning wise here and there but I will bow to your better ear (no flattery .'tis true)
and have a cold one and listen again.

Cheers

Brokedown
I didn't expect to like this 'cos bluegrass isn't really my thing. But I do like it so whether or not this is perfect or even what you set out to do, it's done its job in entertaining me. Makes me wonder whether the best stuff is an unintended consequence!! And perhaps because it is real and we can, as musicians, relate to it.

to Neil keep banging on and saying " you should do some more of that stuff you call Bluegrass " so I has. And you are right sometimes I start out and have no idea what is coming next.....ain't that great !!

Foggy bluegrass
Yeh, I think some tempo and key issues are fogging this up a bit, but it's a really nice sound and I love your choice of instruments. Hope to hear this developed.

The tempo
I am not so worried about as there was no click track and it was basically a fun jam thingy ...but i meticulously tuned and retuned the Bas***d instruments with the same tuner...and you are right there is a problem....Cheers

I cannot figure
which instument is the culprit........I think it is the intonation on the banjo (and probably some of the fingers too !).Will have another go at this some time ....and keep on top of the tuner !
