Summer Rain

Description
Twas raining yesterday morning so I pulled out my guitar and was just playing about really. This sort of just happened as a bit of fun and I decided to lay it down. Just a fun morning on a bleak day!

P.S after the first few comment that this maybe could be added to, if anyone fancies a collab on this and has ideas feel free to give me a shout!

contemplative
Neil, it began to rain last night here in North Texas, drinking a few mint juleps and beers and sitting outside. We didn't bother getting up. In 15 minutes we were soaked. It was a lovely experience. Love the ideas you have here. Are you planning on adding or is this complete? It sounds complete.

Summer Rain
Very nice Neil. I agree with Andy in that it does stand on its own. But this also has great potential as the basis for a larger collab with a vocalist!

beautiful tone
i saw your collab question... this seems like a complete song as it is, but it could probably be formed into something else. going off into another section in the middle (around 1:22) could work, but it really should return to the theme you present here for the ending. doing a mix where it all fades away except the guitar might be very nice (maybe pick it up again around 1:22 when the raindrop harmonics come in)

thanks

Sweet guitar tone and picking
Hi Neil. Nice musical ideas and some sweet guitar tone and picking. I agree with others that this stands alone easily but it is tailor made for someone to put a melody and lyrics over the top with some nice harmonies. Back for another operation today but I might try and look at somethings later in the week. Gods willing. I started humming something as I listened. Take care, Peter.

Enjoyed this..
dreamy and light... reflective, as often pondering what you could do if only it stopped raining is like...I liked the little "hook" feel of the wee riff: C,D (C,A,B,C,E,D) section at about 01:07s had..

Nice noodling
It does conjure the mood of a gentle rainy day. We could certainly use one of those. Somehow the hum of air conditioners doesn't inspire such lovely picking.

Very interesting piece Neil
It has this "stop and go" motif; it builds up in movement and then pauses and reflects, which gives this a real sense of movement, action, and meditation. I tend to agree this would additionally benefit with another addition for contrast and as I've not done anything of this sort yet with my keyboard yet, I'm downloading it and will see if I can come up with something okay for this. Excellent work and thanks for sharing it! Michael

Sounds like an opener for an
early prog rock piece by someone like Genesis or Yes ....or possibly Camel..( sheesh...one day I will explain to you who those bands were !).or possibly one of their link tracks...definitely needs developing further, but is spot on as it is ....dichotomy eh ?

grahame1956 said 2505 days ago (July 18th, 2011)
Hi Neil
Just noticed you put something up (been busy). This is very good. I think it stands on its own but it would be great if turned into a collab. However, I'd steer clear of a drum track of any kind because that might lose the free feel to it. It might be one of those where an instrument gets added at each turn. But lyrics would be cool too - sung by Ravens. If you want me to add anything, I'd like too.

Summer Rain
Neil this is a real nice piece. Something like this works well on it's own ... it has feeling ... like a good sketch. But when you ask if it should be taken further it starts to suggest things. Music is subjective and I'm sure that given to 10 different people you would end up with 10 different songs with your foundation holding it all together. When I listened through this piece I can hear the potential for something more. Enjoyed this very much.

thanks so much for a great comment, I would like to see what other people came up with for this, 10 versions would be amazing, I know one macjammer is working into turning it into a prog rock bit! it was a noodle and if people want to jam it then I think it typifies what the site is about. Really glad you liked it!
