Description
the future is wonderful -- I can finally do what I always wanted to do musically. and I have been. but, I feel the compelling need to return to the simplicity of my naive past. the sincerity of the music I was making 25+ years ago speaks to me somehow. so at this time I have remade mud -- originally done with vox continental and moog mg-1, and mattel synsonics drums. I don't have my vox here ready to play, so I substituted roland jp8000 synth for the organ part. but the rest of this song is as it was in 1985 -- overwrought (and weak!) vocals, moog mg-1, and yes, mattel synsonics drum. all piped into one garageband track. this is a live performance, warts and all -- just as I used to play before overdubbing became the standard in the past decade. if I were to play live, as a one man band, this is what it would essentially sound like. sort of an aptitude test. just as I draw cars to my peak ability, which I reached around 1974 in junior high, so I also play keyboards and sing to my peak ability, which I reached around 1985. I never honed or developed my car-drawing skills, and I have never honed or developed my keyboard playing or singing skills -- since the peak points in my life. in fact, I played with MORE skill back then, as I was more practiced, and arguably my voice was better -- although essentially it has not changed. but I have changed. I am far more cynical and jaded. youth was wasted on the young. all I can do now is try this pale recapture of something long lost. I'm not sad as I do this -- I'm actually elated. but there is a certain pathos and perhaps even some pathology in doing so, or merely in finding the need to do so. I have no idea if anyone on this planet can even begin to understand what I mean by this. but this song captures my essence in a time capsule -- 1985, sealed -- 2011, opened. more will be revealed. time's layers will either strip away, or they won't. but I am getting me back or dying trying ;-) if anyone cares, fine -- if not, I will keep on -- it's what I do, and have always done ;-) and macjams provides a perfect outlet right now to do this. I thank you all for your patience and tolerance as I unmask my lack of development!

Lyrics
dirt looks so light until it gets all wet and turns dark
the stuff I'm describing bud is mud
it's squishy in your feet and feels so good underneath
no sticks and stones to break bones just the loose sluicy ooze of mud

just the loose sluicing ooze of mud
just the loose sluicing ooze of mud
oh to float in a big bucket of mud
my body beneath my head up above
sends chills down my spine as I think of how cool it feels
sends chills down my spine as I think of how cool it feels

how come something that matters so much means so much more in the mud
there on the earth it's just too mucky to touch
but here in the home it's just mud

just the loose sluicing ooze of mud
just the loose sluicing ooze of mud
oh to float in a big bucket of mud
my body beneath my head up above
sends chills down my spine as I think of how cool it feels
sends chills down my spine as I think of how cool it feels
sends chills down my spine as I think of how cool it feels
sends chills down my spine as I think of how cool it feels

What I like
the most is your music. It sounds happy. And your singing and lyrics have the wonder of a child. That's pretty cool to be able to tap into that. Thanks.

mud
Someone get some spa treatments for this man stat! I like the synth lines. The melody works well as does the vocal. Quirky lyric is cool. A song about mud? Why not?

nice
i can relate to the idea of music from the past holding a certain integrity. could it be that's when music was the primary force in our lives, so it just feels like it was obviously more intense? love the backing textures (especially those drums).

here is a link for a free 60's style combo organ if you want to get your original sound back. try both of the organs he has, they're great. to get a more awesome vintage sound, detune everything just slightly:

ROFL
This is great. I get the feeling there may be more to this song than meets the eye. Very creative song. I like how you disregard convention and just go for it. That is what music is all about. Nice work here man. Keep up the good work.
