The story behind this is that I wrote the lyrics (and one other song, as well) after a particularly weird night that gave me the feeling that something was "out there" and was waiting for me to somehow screw up and make myself vulnerable to cosmic retribution. A very Philip K. Dickish paranoid world view, but written long before I ever read any Dick or even knew anything about him. Also, people involved in religion might recognize a few references to The Watchman as being somewhat "adversarial" in nature. This, too, long before I had my stint as a believer and understood the function of Satan.

One of my early MIDI experiments, using a Yamaha V-50, Korg Wavestation A/D, and Korg S3. For this one I had a mixer, so no Y-connection mumbo-jumbo was employed.
Power Tracks Pro, the best soft sequencer out there, especially at the price, which is somewhere around 50 bucks.

My songstuff tends to be overly serious, or overly absurd, or absurdly serious, or seriously absurd. It's up to the listener to decide which.

The Function of Satan
Great first post Montag! I'm most impressed. Vocals are really superb and all your synth work is out of sight. Your drum sounds are really nice as well. Man, I need to unpack my Yamaha V50 and get busy with a new tune! The lion roars (samples?) are intense.

Great mix and a really original sound. It's really cool hearing something from you after all the time we spent playing live.

Welcome to MacJams. I look forward to your next post!

Coming from you this is all high praise! The drum sounds were from the S3, as was some of the really really abstract one-shots. The lion (if I recall correctly) was done using the Boss SE-70's pitch shifter and really lowering the pitch of my voice. If it was a sample, and I don't think it was, it would have been my voice lowered as well. Oh, and that gliss bit where I lead in to the roar part? That was just voice, and I had to take it a few times to keep my voice from breaking or me running out of breath. Heheh.
