Description
This song began its life with a simple Em to D riff and a mumble that ended with the word “realized”. I then had some fun end rhyming with that word for the rest of the song ☺.
I laid down a drum track and added some echo vocals and harmonies and then decided it was time to ask “The Great Southern Band” (jiguma and Philip18) to come back on the virtual road for another collaboration.
Luckily they both readily agreed and, as always, quickly provided tracks that worked in really well with where I thought the song should head.
I had downloaded the trial version of Ozone 5 and been re-mastering a few of my earlier songs (with impressive results) so I decided to have a go at mastering this (even though I had the master masterer, Neil, on board). Neil offered to give me some advice along the way and it has been invaluable.
The “Great Southern Band”:
Peter – composer, vocals, centre rhythm guitar, drum loops, mix & master
Neil – bass, B3 backer and solo, mastering advice
Philip – lead guitar, left/right channel guitars.
Hope you like our second collaboration.
Peter

Lyrics
Don’t Look So Surprised – Peter Bowen (2011)
Intro and all verses: Em D (repeated)
I’ve just realized
You’ve been telling lies ‘bout me
It’s opened my eyes
And I’m intent on getting free
Don’t look so surprised
You’ve had it coming for a while
You dropped your disguise
Showed the guile behind your smile
[C] Now that I [D] know
That all we [Bm7] had is just a [Em7] sham
[C] I’m stepping on [D] out
About [B7] you, I don’t give a [B7/D#] damn
Now I’ve recognized
You don’t really care about me
Let’s be civilized
And end this misery
Bridge
[G] The time to [A] live and let live is [Em] past
[G] I’ve es[A]caped your spell at [B7/D#] last
Lead (over one verse and chorus)
I won’t fantasize
‘Bout you changing your false ways
And I won’t temporize
This is our end of days
And I can’t sanitize
All the pain you put me through
And I can’t theorize
Why you don’t feel the same way too
[C] Now that I [D] know
That all we [Bm7] had is just a [Em7] sham
[C] I’m stepping on [D] out
About [B7] you, I don’t give a [B7/D#] damn
So don’t dramatize
‘Cause you don’t love me anymore
I’m revitalized
And I’m walking out that door.

Came up well I reckon. All the kudos goes to you Peter for getting such a crisp and tasteful Ozone 5 mix. One day we need to find a "Great Southern Band" keyboards player though ;) Nice guits Philip.
Cheers from the far north!
