When We Dance

From the homemade opera (nearing 50% completion) "Seadog's Magic Sandals" (barefoot swindle meets slippery fraud) I wrote this first song. Then somehow thought I should write companion songs; and then remembered "Tommy" and that was pretty good; and I truly did go to one opera in Chicago in the 70's and who should happen to sit next to me but Jim Nabors of Gomer Pyle fame. So, there were two good reasons to think I could write an opera; I had a roommate who had "Tommy" on Lp's and played it a lot; I sat next to Gomer Pyle (and because of all the big deals in the opera it was really good); and opera means work in Italian and I'm Italian and got ripped off millions at work. And I wasted very little water in the making of this song.

You got 'cool' (RE: store high in transit)
Everything you're not, you learned in school
Oh, no, I don't want to die
But I could never, ever, ever, ever live your lies anymore
But I don't die alone
And I don't want to die unknown

When we dance
It won't be for love and romance
Go, go, go your reputations
Ha, ha, ha that's alright
They were Vanilli, anyway
But your lies are driving me astray
And I don't want to die alone
And I don't want to die unknown

I don't want to die alone, but I don't want to live in fear
Everything I've ever done, is everything that got me hear
So, if I have to bid a sad adieu
I don't want to die alone
And I don't want to die unknown

You are "hooked on evil" people
Everything you've done to me is wrong
All I did is bring you wealth
And all you've done is steal with sneak and stealth and aplomb
But I don't want to die alone
And I don't want to die unknown

"I am Frau Blucher" (Cloris Leachman)

"Frantic neigh" (Bossy and Clarabell)

YOU got "cool"!
Nobody wants to die alone or unknown but the way you sing this it sounds like an original thought. Lovely playing too. Not sure about the stuff at the end.

Creeps up on you...
Interesting song Seadog. It creeps up on you. Bit like Leonard Cohen meeting the Beatles... It creates an unusual atmosphere but repays careful listening. Regards, Peter.

When I was a little kid, early on a Saturday morning, my clock radio came on, and it was perpetually tuned to world-famous KRLA AM radio, and Johnny Burnette's "You're Sixteen" started playing, with that thrilling violin intro. I almost came out of m... [see more]
