Plastik Jazz(retitled)

Description
This is a free-form jazz piece featuring the Moog Modular and Logic ES2 synth. I used the iPad as a Midi input device via Wireless CoreMidi - using Thumbjam as the instrument playing the lead - this allows much more expressiveness than a conventional keyboard - maybe went overboard with the bends (EDIT - I did! This version takes some of them out) but it was fun! And yes, I did jump around the room while playing - thankfully no video is available.

Plastik Miles
Very cool!! I enjoyed this ... like the Miles image. Sounds like you had a lot of fun with that synth.

Thanks
SKWERYL, HOPE YOUR FACE IS JAZZED OFF?

Thanks for listening gadzooks - as others have pointed out, probably not a Miles styled piece but it was a fun piece to put together. Its more jazz/funk oriented and was more an experiment mixing the Arturia Moog Modular with a free-form lead. The "pre-repost" version had some extreme pitch shifting in it that on later listening was um...painful!

Now why would....
You call him plastic_k...?... ooooh because the moog is made of plastic
or are you trying to ride on his fame..... with the name.....LOL

It's a cool track, alot of nice sounds, but it's no reason to run my boy down.....his memory is blessed, his life may not have been and he's not here to defend his name...unless your doing one of his tunes don't ride
his name.....

Still a good song......

Not dissing Miles :)
Not dissing - the Plastik implies cheap/imitation :) Which my playing qualifies for...Also the mosaic in the piece is actually made from bits of plastic. But point taken (here and elsewhere) - not a Miles piece really.

Retitled
Here and on icompositions I got some very good feedback and decided to retitle the arrangement. The original title implied a Miles Davis like piece which this is not and many even questioned whether I was mocking Miles in the attempt - most assuredly not!

In any event, its better to put it on its own rather than associate it with a jazz icon - too controversial! I will stick with sex, religion and politics from here on out :)

LOL
Yes: for sure, stick with the safe topics ;-)
I like this Mike: the bendy Moog reminds me of someone/group from the 70s, I think. Doesn't matter, this is cool.

expressive
Not sure what to think of this. On the one hand I'll gladly believe you that Thumbjam allows you to be expressive, on the other hand the solo is in danger of becoming, hm, noodling?

Pretty much is!
Yeah the original comment was for the first release which I changed. I had the bend pitch active and went a bit wild with it which gave parts of the piece a really cool feel - overall, however, it bordered on atonal so I tried a few crazy options. The first was to filter the solo through pitch correction - a T-PAIN instrumental which went about like you might expect. The second option was to simply erase all the bend CC midi messages which is what I went with.

My analog musical experience is all with trumpet playing so I enjoy getting similar attack/release settings and brass timbres even with electronica. But the solo is indeed sort of noodling. Trumpet solos were similar - the jazz charts would say 12 bars in E - the rest was up to me - the talent limit comes in there :)

Thanks as always for listening - your comments are always insightful!

Plastik Jazz...
Real powerful transitions, breezy solo work on synth..nice bottom n drumz provide an excellent canvas for smiles..full-bodied mixx takes this sortie to Big Smile City, and I like
the bends, they wring out more flava..most excellent work? no, Fun session...:)peace
