When I was 21 or 22 I wrote an EP about where I lived. It started with a song about the street I grew up on, then the town I lived in, then the county I lived in, and finally the state I lived in. This is the 4th and final song. It wasn't a glowing review of my situation at the time, but it is what it is. We're far from perfect. Hell, we're barely presentable. But it's home. We'll have this puppy turned around in 5-10 years.

I recorded this on my bed, playing and singing in one take in to the pinhole mic (I think my interface is busted). I then did a bit of noodling over the top and that's about it. Then I tried to clean it up the best I could. I'm averaging 1 song every 8 months. Fever clip!

Pipe dream living never felt so fine
Ignorance houses all your dreams of the sublime
From the Black Canyon Freeway to the
Red Rocks of Sedona.
I've never liked Arizona.

Yard sale weekends and the PTA
I just graduated from minimum wage.
I can't keep up with this
keeping up with the Jones'
Keep me out of Arizona

I've given it time to come around
I've given more time than I should have allowed.
So far it's selling short and not
quite meeting its quota
I am sold out of Arizona

I've dug up bones and I've shown the light
I pray that I have set you right.
And I'm well aware after
all that I have shown ya
There is no excuse for Arizona

Friends, you've taken this lesson well.
But I've one question, do pray tell
Will you, won't you, can you not?
Or are you even gonna
Move away from Arizona

Life is just a gruesome, post-apocalyptic coma.
Living here in Arizona.

The ascending plucky part to the solo. Cool working class hero vibe to the song. Enjoyed it!

Love it! Great song and your performance is excellent! The lyrics are wonderful. Love the tasty guitar solo.

PS: I think Florida is constantly looking to one up the F'ed up things happening in Arizona.

Whenever something goes down in Florida I always give Dorsey a hard time. Our woodchipper suicide to your face eating hobo ration is 2:1 so... well... I don't know what to make of that.

Love it
Not AZ, but the tune and the sentiment

You got it spot on...even to the lo fi scratchy recording

This is somewhat a nice companion piece to home sweet home I think...

I agree
I still prefer the subtlety of home sweet home. This ends up being too preachy while home sweet home is a puzzle and feels more mature.

Arizona doesn't deserve
such a great song. I've only been a visitor from time to time so I'm really not qualified to say that - but I figure I had license to based on your opinion of the place. I'm really glad you went the minimal pinhole route - even if by necessity - it's perfect for the tune. Excellent song. Great picture too.

I think it's more alt folk, but I like it anyway.
Clever lyrics, well sung, stripped down arrangement works. I've got friends in Jersey that want to move to Arizona in the worst way, they'd be glad to trade with you.

Amid the warts, I like Arizona more now. I've come to appreciate the Sonoran Desert and different things about the state. There are some boneheads, but no place is perfect. Thanks for listening!
