Miniskirts n Popsox

I wasn't sure whether to post this song. I'm not sure if its ready for primetime but it's had more work than most of my songs. It started as an attempt at a 60's style song but then a mood change happened that I liked so I stuck the two ideas together. I can't be sure it works but, hell, I like to take risks.
Lyrically it's about those times when you're young when you just don't care what the future holds, then yo look back when older and see that all those folk who said "you'll regret that when you're older" were right. The smug bastards!

Never on the level
Dude I love the verse, it's really bright and yeah it's been done but you give it an indie swagger. And I like the idea of the bridge/chorus. But it needs to be so much bigger. Like Wall of Sound bigger, just roll in like a wave crashing into the verse. As is it's really lost to the dynamics of the verse. I can imagine a big vocal part - couple different counter melodies, maybe some fuzz, rolling tympani!! I like your rhythm work on this - great tone. I can hear each string in the chord. I think it's got a lot of promise man, looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

I'm digging it
I like the progression and the melody that goes along with it. The vocals and harmony fit well, it's got a little bit of that "It's getting better all the time" vibe to it. Nice work, thoroughly enjoyed.

Thumping drums and driving guitars keep this moving along. Vocal, including the harmonies, works well. Entertaining lyrics. I like it!

You have captured that 60's style well, Paddy, with the floating background vocals and the sparse, retro guitar driven arrangement. I agree with Craig, it might possibly benefit from a greater dynamic shift at stages during the song. Nice work. Regards, Peter.

ah ha
now this reaches its goal, I really dig this the stabbing rhythm is great and the back ground vox rounds it out nice so what if it has some nicks here and there its a fun and uplifting song and I really enjoyed it! I need to get a pair of popsox :)!

say that youth is wasted on the young. I like the bounciness of the thing. Bigger sounds like a good idea to me, too. Thanks.

Of course, my email is almost a week after you post it. Anyway, I'm glad you posted it. I see some good comments here and if you were to incorporate them I'd love to hear how it turns out. But this is still a great track. Like an Anthology version of a Rubber Soul track. Even in the early stages it's a top track.

I grew up in the 70's and 80's in the south of the UK in an Irish family. I had always loved music but was never given an opportunity to explore making it for myself. About 10 years ago I bought an acoustic guitar and began strumming in earnest. To d... [see more]
