Description
Combo Jazz chart put together on Logic X in 6/8 time using Samplemodeling Trumpet and Sax and Logic bass/pianos. Trumpet and Sax performed using Akai EWI. Went back to the desktop DAW (Logic X) for this one. Used the great "Track Stacks" feature to play unison parts for Sax/Trumpet on the EWI.

Thanks!
The piano is done in two tracks to hide my lack of keyboard skills :) I was happy with it though. A left hand chorded track with a right hand melodic part.

Much appreciated
I'm glad you liked it. Its always a challenge to pull off sax and trumpet tracks with samples. Using the EWI helps a lot - being able to blow and bend notes with good samples behind it makes it more real. Now the limitations are more related to my playing technique and much less the instruments :)

Groovin nicely and something is being said in the solo dept. Welcome indeed... just came close to the edge there for a second...

The edge is always fluctuating !
Not sure how edgy I will get with MIDI but gradually the EWI is becoming less a "MIDI controller" to me and more just another instrument that I need to master!

Love the swing you have going here - horns sound great. It's hard to find good samples for solo brass that can play this kind of music. Piano tone has an easy feel to it too.

Handoff between the instruments sounds great and you easily conjure up a late night smoke filled room with a quartet playing their last set.

Thanks for the dload!

Thanks!
It was hard to find samples and controllers to make sax/trumpets even credible. I think the SampleModeling offerings along with the MIDI wind controller get me as close as I can get "electronically". Played Trumpet for years and I love rediscovering the sounds while being able to finger and use breath control again. The piano is just the stock Steinway from Logic X - I like it a lot better than the Kontakt pianos I have though (done in two tracks because I cheat!).

Michael this is so jazzzzzy! Nice groove and your expertise in making electronic instruments sound acoustic is very cool!

Thanks so much
Its been until recently my "tilting at windmills" - trying to use electronic MIDI equipment for acoustic music. I think the software along with the cool controllers (MIDI wind instrument) are getting me close finally.

Got into MIDI with an early Soundblaster AWE-32 and Cakewalk and later rediscovered with my Apple and Garageband and now with Logic 9 and Akai EWI. Musical influences in no particular order: Steely Dan, Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Beatles, Je... [see more]
