Legacy #5 (2003 Recording)

 Genre: Smooth Jazz

This is an old recording, from my debut CD back in 2003. The song was written in 1983 though. When I wrote the piece, I envisioned a flute player, real drums, a gorgeous sounding piano; but I had access to none of these things. So, I settled for drum computers and synths; and ultimately it was the piece on the record I was least satisfied with. But, I have access to those things now, and I decided to revisit this and maybe one other song from the first CD for my new one, to give them their due, so to speak. I just had my flute player in tonight (8/20/13) to cut the parts, and in a day or two I'll put the new recording up for you to hear.

Interesting piece, Phil. Smooth, warm melody. I like what you've done with the drums. The bass has a good flow to it - very stylish. The lead instrument is pleasant, but perhaps lacks cut, so I'll be interested to hear what your flute player adds. Great to see inside the thinking you go through as you tweak arrangements.

Just the kind of stuff you'd hear on those "Lights Out" jazz stations in the 80's and 90's - super smooth and flowing with interesting chord changes and a very cool bridge break. I enjoyed every second, Phil!

Very nice melodic piece. Delicious bass work, subtle in the mix but great note selection as usual from you. Your lines are nicely thought out and delivered smoothly. Looking forward to hearing the ramped up version.

The style and feel of the piece
is clearly true to its date of birth, a lovely 80s sound that would not be out of place as a TV theme or on Movie music soundtrack......

be interesting to hear any further developments.....
