Toward the Light

Believe it or not, this piece started out similarly to my previous post, "Green Song", in that the backer is a single Alchemy synth track with a simple chord progression. In each case, the sounds produced inspired me to create entirely different accompaniments. Here, the synthy, sweepy strings (which you hear by itself for the first minute) back up melodies played by an oboe and a pan flute (both of which are free vst instruments offered up by Ben Boldt several years ago but recently discovered by me). The final section returns to the oboe with the melody doubled by a plucked guitar Alchemy preset. The Boldt instruments are pretty good but I'm sure both melodies would sound better if played by real instruments.

The title was given by my wife, and the piece is for my mother.

There's a very nice vibrato on that oboe. Same is true of the pan flute. To my ear they come off as very authentic and very good choices for the gentle melodies they play. A lovely and soothing listen. Perfect for some morning meditation.

Sweet Alchemy...
...all the way. Such lush chords and lingering dreaminess. A beautiful meditation that you've created by just taking your time and letting the chord progressions and simple melody grow out of the full-stereo backing track. This is a very peaceful number definitely worthy of many revisits. Such calmness in the midst of a world filled with so much activity is truly a gift given, Richard. Thank you for writing this.

I could meditate to this...and for a guy that can barely stop his feet from tapping in his SLEEP, that's saying something. Beautiful piece.

Like the photo. Like the music. Beautiful, lush, serene atmosphere, Richard. Some of those Boldt software instruments are very good. Andrew hit on the key word first off - soothing. Thanks, Peter.

Calm and reflective. I especially like the breathiness of the pan flute. Beautiful work, Richard.

This is just what I needed to hear right now ... feeling overwhelmed and this is just what the doctor ordered. Lovely piece. Nicely put together Richard. The dynamics are working well ... a very nice build.

I thought I'd commented
but it seems I didn't.

Very laid back. I had a massage for my birthday and this music would have complemented it very nicely!

Toward the Light
Loved how the synth strings swept over the beginning (just as you said they would!), which for me always signals the start of something musically; this part seemed slightly magical to me. Then the flute (which sounds real to me!) brings us to earth with it's beautiful round tones, which gives way to the oboe (again, very authentic sounding) and we are lifted back to the stars again. This is such a wonderfully inspiring piece Richard; it has such a fine coating of wonderment to it that really moved me. Applause to you for a truly excellent score and most worthy of the person it is dedicated to. Thanks again, Michael
