Just Dreaming

Well I seem to have a few songs with dreams and oceans in them. But then I do live on the ocean.... and I do dream ... daydream. I bought a cheap yamaha acoustic guitar from a garage sale for $50 and decided to try recording a song with it. I used a sure 58 and recorded 3 tracks EQ-ing them each differently to try and get them to stand out on their own yet fit together. You can hear it's a cheap guitar ... I used addictive drums and GB midi bass.... the little ending percussion is me drumming on the acoustic. All vocals I did with the 58.

That guitar sounds great. I would attribute the sound you're getting from an inexpensive instrument to your incredible playing ability and your skills as an engineer. You proved something I've always believed. A $50 acoustic with a mic in front of it will always sound better than a $2000 electric/acoustic plugged in.

The song is beautiful. Great melody and vocal. Your playing is nothing short of amazing. Your lead work is awesome. How can you play the acoustic so smoothly and fluidly? The improvisation during the outro made my jaw drop.

Sounding very nice, Stan. The 58 is such a great mic. It is so forgiving. A song for floating and definitely dreaming. You did a great job with the variation in tone and style in the three tracks. You seem to have Addictive Drums on a string, too. Fine post. Thanks, Peter.

Well not my usual listening genre, if I'm to be honest, but I'm glad I stopped by and had a listen. Beautifully played and mixed Stan, this was a rare acoustic treat for me!

piece, Stan
If you get such a sound with a bit of EQ I think that ain't a bad purchase :-)
I like bright guitars, whenever they make me think of the sound of the Byrds it's OK
The mix is sparkling, every guitar is mixed in well.
we should do a collab,Stan :-)
always a joy listening to your music.

Good tune...
I love dreaming as well, when they are good ones but in
the corners of my mind, there are some bad ones that
like to show they are still there...
Very nice piece of work, my Friend.....Well done...

Guitar sounds valuable. Wish mine could do that!
This a very nice song too, and the vocals are great. Shure 58 has been around for a long time, and for a good reason. Much enjoyed. T

Beautiful to this, Stan. Love the vocals - very emotive. The guitars work well - every one with its own space and doing something interesting. Time you put a CD together?

It's not about the price of the instrument, it's about the heart of the hands behind it.
Nice EQ-ing and use of the 58. I have one, but haven't used it in years, favoring my Rode NT2000 for just about everything. Beautiful playing on this tune. Thx.

very nice
Its too bad I dont have the studio pa on...But very nice mix and great writing. The drums on these speakers are a bit too much for the acoustic guitar.Maybe brushes would have worked. But hey Im not a drummer... Great work..

I am lucky enough to be living near the ocean this year (even though temporarily), and I will have to listen to this one on the beach. Great vocals and guitar work. I don't know if it's intentional or not, but I also like the background ambient sound effect. It enhances the mood of the open ocean... Cheers.

A cheap guitar?
You have to be kidding. If so, how did you accomplish making it sound so absolutely rich and lush? I just love the liquid sound that's streaming through this peaceful track. Andrew has put his finger on how you did it. Wow. So impressed with your wonderful skills both as performer and engineer. ... The vocals, too, are rich and pleasant, though I must admit to not understanding most of the words (my crappy hearing!). Bass fills this out with classic elan and precise counterpoint. I imagine the mix of this composition must have taken you a long time. The results speak for themselves: magnificent!

A beautiful song Stan. You can make any guitar talk I'd wager, and this one sounds certainly fine in this mix. Skillful use of the drum package too. A very nice production overall and just the right amount of salt air in the sounds and artwork to remind me of home.

Thanks for the dload!
