The Gates are Open

I could feel the energy of the gates pulsing behind me
as I looked above
they opened
and we fell in

Surrounded by light
in the dark of space
what was it?
The next dimension?

Floating in a sea of dark now
All we could see is within ourselves
and didn't like what we saw
only darkness within

What happened to us?
We used to be so happy
now alone even with each other
in this sea of dark

Like being among the dead
who are still living
The last breaths escaped
and became ice in the dark of space

The Gates are Open
The understated opening motif sounds great. I read the poem as it played and the combination worked well. The piece is hypnotic, in a way, but, to me, it may be enhanced by not being as long. Thanks. Regards, Peter.

You are right, I improvised this and couldn't find any parts that were too long but today listening again I spot a couple. I could probably shorten it down to 4 mins. Thanks you rock! -UB

if you would, speaking the words of the poem over the music... Kudos...

Too long?
As it is, maybe Peter has a point. But I don't think you'd necessarily need to shorten it. I think what it needs are some other musical elements. There is so much room here, you could easily add some more instruments. If this was mine, I'd be looking to add some synthetic sounds to it, rather than sampled orchestral things. [But that's what I like!] It's a really nice bed. The last few bars are almost Beethovenesque. [Is there such a word?!] Speaking the words to the poem over the music is a nice idea.

Synth sounds
Yeah I usually do my whole songs with mostly synth sounds with classical chord progressions but I've been asked by some people on Soundcloud to do some with old school strings so that's why I did this. Thanks :)

Is this a Kontakt library? the samples are so thick and nice. I think it could be added to in terms of other instruments too, and someday it may be, or it may not. I like the sound of these string samples though. Beautiful.

Thanks you :)
I just improvised the whole thing in 1 take with some chord progressions I'd been working on in my head for awhile. The samples are basic Ableton live 9 pack strings I'm playing on my M Audio with midi, then I used some VST action with this new one I got called "Aether" which is amazing. It has some really specific reverb and FX settings which are pretty amazing which is probably what you are hearing!
