world turns to blue

Ray Bradbury's vision of the future in Fharenheit 451 seems to have turned into a reality were we sit transfixed to giant TV's on the wall. I wrote this a while ago when I was working for a company that installed these home entertainment systems and technology seems to be going so fast that I thought I'd better upload it before the song would be out of date.
It's about people who's lives are obsessed around TV programmes despite them having their own dramas and traumas they get blanked out by the triviality of TV fantasy land and the 'real world' starts to disappear.

Bright spells, sunny weather
I've got some glue for keeping it together
Got my forecast for the week
Waiting for the storm to break

Game shows, big brother
don't know why I even bother
something to look forward to
something to come home to

And as the whole world turns to blue
Plasma screens and VDU
And as the whole world turns to blue
so do you

Don't cry, it's only soap
I've got my own tightrope
Must see T.V
Escaping reality

I'm a casualty of the ratings war
Cocooned from the effects outside my door
Something to look forward to
Something to come home to

And as the whole world turns to blue
Plasma screens and VDU
And as the whole world turns to blue
so do you

Do you know, I've never owned a TV! Never in my life. I very really watch the box, although my missus is an addict. It was a conscious decision, way back in the 1970s, and one I've stuck to.

Nicely polished, catchy tune, good message, good lyrics. This would be really nice with a female vocal in the chorus I think.

A lot of us would get more songs finished without TV for sure...This is a cool tune and a clever theme...Much enjoyed.

ps...I agree with Daves' idea on the chorus.

the chorus of this song stayed with me for quite a long while after i played your tune. i really enjoyed the composition and the concept is very thoughtful. classic ending. thanks for posting!

Turns against vacancy...
Outstanding. The bite on yer vocal recalls Jim Morrison there for a second... like yer on the edge of getting angry but decide to finish the vocal line instead, 'cos the message in the song is important.
Stopped watching in '77. Noticed TV was a minder. Decided to play banjo instead of television...

Interesting ideas/words
The drum track, which at first I found a bit disconcerting, really grew on me. I'm hearing a distinct Bowie influence (a good thing), and lots of other good things too. This is a really good track - memorable and a great listen.

really nice guitar, killer chorus. I like how you beefed up the instrumentation and vox on the chorus. neat ending too.
I must confess a weakness for the "antiques roadshow" but I'm limiting it to once a week!

the juxtaposition between the drums and the guitar. it carries the song well. solid vocal, too

Clean start. Love the vocals and the story. A great break for the chorus. The acustic tones and very well EQ'ed. I think it could use a bridge. nice work. I will keep listening.

The song itself I found quite John Lennon-ish from around the Plastic Ono band period of 1970 - probably my favourite period in pop. Well balanced and played, with the vocals clear and comfortable in the mix. I also appreciate the sentiments of the piece a very much abused instrument - also the tv has become almost un-watchable for me with so many shallow programs all with their amateurishly overwhelming background sound effects. I feel the song will only get more and more IN date surely. Excellent and enjoyed muchly. JJ.
