Tokyo is Awake

Get Flash to see this player.

Started this Friday evening, this is where I've got up to on Sunday afternoon. I'm sure the mix needs loads of work, but as as I tinkered with my last track for 6 months, its been great just to get something new written, quickly!

In the Esquire club the bunnys swoon
You take my hand , say ' dont, don't peak too soon'
From 6 to midnight we are dreaming our lives
Every second that survives, you survive

We can never go back we lose the days
And tonight's a taxi ride away
Make a stupid god and pretend it's you
I was shot down, shot down before I even drew

In the car you said
I don't want to leave this to fate,
In the car you sleep while
Tokyo is awake

In the car You broke my
Heart, oh please do that again
In the car we're dreaming
Tokyo is awake

Reasons have their seasons but they're all a lie
Cherry blossom weekend where we live and die

Hi alan
I'm using nectar 2, and find this a good plug in. There is a good range and style of effects. I used this for the main vocals. For the backing vox I used the channel strips that came with the last version of Logic with the Killers track Spaceman, the settings are nicked from that!

Classy song, Steve. Classic rock vocals and a hook that will reel 'em in every time. Liking the arrangement and the panned guitars. The bass sits perfectly in the mix, too. Weekend work worth waiting for. Thanks, Peter.

Cool song, well executed.

The synth sounds superfluous to me: it doesn't contribute to the arrangement. Where it comes in, the guitars are already making a sustained sound (even if you're strumming: there is no detectable rhythm, unlike the verse) so having more sustained sound does not add anything. I would omit it, or do something arpeggio-ish.

Thanks Vic. Since I posted this I had tweaked the mix, and took the chorus keyboard down as it was way too loud. Thanks for the comments.

Fast tracking a hit
Great Bowie vibe. Very good vocals, both in performance and recording quality and mix. Magnetic. Compelling lyrics, making me want to know more of the story behind the song. Would love annotations! A really strong track. Love it.

not getting email notifications, so missed this.
Another very good, Bowie-esque contribution from you here. I always love listening to your songs, and this is no exception.
Happy 2015!
