Stormy Weather (live)

Description
This is a live performance I did of the old classic Stormy Weather from around 2008-09 at a Rehab/Convalescent Hospital. I would do an hour gig once a month, mostly singing the old standards. Great memories of those folks who were so appreciative of this amateur.

Composer: Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler, 1933.

Stormy Weather
This had a rather Elvis 50's swagger vocal feel to it.. I liked this alternative version..:)

a little swagger...
Joyce, my take was influenced by the version of this song recorded in the sixties by the group The Magnificent Men: https://youtu.be/o2Y-4tiC9vs

Thanks for listening and I'm glad you like the 'Elvis 50's swagger!'

Good job
With both guitar and singing. And nice recording too. I can definitely hear a bit of Elvis here :-) Well done!

Thanks and take care,
Henke

recording...
Just for info purposes: The recording was done with a Zoom H2 recorder, a Shure mic and guitar through a Behringer acoustic amp. I was pretty pleased at how clear it turned out.

Thank you for listening and for your comments! Best to you...

Thanks Lena...
Ruth, one of the residents at the facility, was also a friend who looked forward to my music (she's since died), thus my joke about her being my manager. Glad you enjoyed the song...

Zooming along...
Thanks, KC. The H2 is indeed the perfect recorder for this kind of performance. Glad you like my rendition of this old tune.

jangles...
Thanks, Daug. The treatment is very much influenced by the version recorded in the mid-sixties by a group out of PA called The Magnificent Men. Stormy Weather - https://youtu.be/o2Y-4tiC9vs - was to biggest hit (although only regional). I always liked their version.

Another good one by them is the song Peace of Mind - https://youtu.be/s9OdKo-Kqpw

Hey Jack
I will check out the leads, thanks. I played in a couple of duos which covered material like this... Your brave version recalls my busking at outdoor restaurants in the 80s.

I hope to...
... post covers of a few more old standards over the next several weeks. They were all recorded at the same time as this one. Thanks again, and best to you...

Stormy Weather
Always love this song...Refreshing to hear a striped down version where the 7th and minor chords actually ring through....Much enjoyed.

many thanks...
tmcfate, for your encouraging comments. So glad you liked the tune. The Elvis thing was unintended (maybe I've been influenced by him?). And the guitar tone... nice to hear you like it. The Ovation EA guitar is the shallow bowl model. Fiddling with the the tone controls and the Zoom A2 effects pedal helped bring up to a good sound. Cheers!
