Close Call

This is actually a reworking of a song I did back in 2010 called "If I Ran The Circus". I was never happy with how that one came out, but liked the overall concept, the verses, and the drum & bass lock-up. So I came up with an entirely new chorus melody/lyrics and created a new intro/outro. Overall, I beefed things up a ton and created new synth/guitar sounds that packed more of a punch. I also reworked the drum programming to hopefully give them more energy and a livelier feel.

The Carnival Intro and Outro were taken from some royalty free recordings of giant old circus music boxes.

Thanks for any feedback or comments. Enjoy!

Pull up your anchors
There's nothing here for us anymore
The homeland has turned on its lovers
And sank us down so low

Thank all your mothers
That she branded your manners well
You can disguise your motives, yeah
While you spin your spell

Close call
I don't know how I got out of it
Close call
Running on and running on
Don't fall
When your heart says to turn away
Close call
That unknown path you contemplate
Close call
Escape that circus on the make
Don't fall
When your heart says to turn away

No one wants the truth
It might prove you wrong
Facts are changin with your P.O.V.
Twisted to keep a failed plan strong

Make the sky your alter
And let no secrets hide
Shout off that clutter, yeah
and let your dealings shine and shine

cool song! i especially like how the bassline is constructed and its divergence from the main riff during the verses. my only nit is there are dissonant sounds during the chorus, making the section a little less catchy. the horns are an interesting addition and the carnival intro and outro round out the composition nicely. thanks for posting!

I love that synth/guitar
sound. heavy, buzzy and sitting just right. Saxes were an extra nice touch. Gave me some Roxy vibes.

Close Call
Nice drive and catchy synth riffs set the song up for the interesting call/response chorus. I like the song and the arrangement and when I turned it up I found the "slam" that I thought it needed. The energy is there. Thanks, Peter.

Intro is wonderful!
...and the driving synths and general feeling of the song are just so in-your-face that it's impossible to look away. Nice production. (Clowns scare me!)
