I Wish It Would Rain (live 1970)

Another vintage recording. This one is a cover of the Temptations' hit song "I Wish It Would Rain." This was recorded at a dance in the Norristown area of Pennsylvania in 1970. The genre listed is Soul, but more accurately this is Motown which isn't an option at MacJams. Apparently Simon missed the Detroit sound in the sixties. We were a cover band and this is another tune that I think we faithfully performed. What do you think?

Russell Shockley: lead vocal
Vince Roggio: lead guitar
Barry Shockley: bass
Dave Carlino: drums
Reggie Tucker: trumpet
Jack Miller: tenor saxophone

Nice cover and that sax/horn section really lends an air of authenticity. You folks have a lot of energy in this recording - probably the band was able to riff off of the energy of the dancers. A strong performance from everyone that has me bopping along.

Faithfulness score:10

Just finished listening to you lovely symphonic composition. Thank, Doug. We rehearsed a lot to keep faithful to the originals. That's what the audience wanted. That's what we tried to give them. Best to you...

Can hear that you had a lot of fun. A well rehearsed band. Sounds professional.

And I heard a glimpse of Jimi in there (1:01), nice!

A lot of fun indeed...
We did work at our rehearsals. Vince, our leader made sure we knew our parts! Vince, the guitar player, would get a kick out of your Jimi reference!

Not familiar with this particular song but the rendition sounds very professional. Love the sound of the lo-fi drums in this recording. Made me think that back in the day when most songs were under three minutes, you'd need a set list a mile long to get through a night :-) Thanks, Jack.

3-minute tunes...
Hi Peter, thanks for chiming in on this old recording. Yes, the lo-fi of the drums, the whole song, adds a bit of the earlier time and place that belongs to it. Glad you enjoyed.
