A quick and dirty recording using the iMac's built-in mic and Garageband of a song I wrote a very long time ago. I'm not really this insecure or paranoid but hey, everyone feels this way some time or another, LOL!

I'm not popular, what can I do
They don't love me the way they do you
But I don't mind, I know that I don't shine
It's just a way to pass the time, putting all my feelings in rhyme

I don't rate now what can I do
They just run from me over to you
And so it goes, I just put them in a doze
But that's alright with me, As long as I'm living so free

Maybe I should keep my mouth shut
And lie in a tomb like King Tut
Maybe I should swim to the bottom of the sea
Looking for a mermaid who might be looking for me

Good song
This is a good song, i like the straight forward style of songwriting that you got with this one. On one hand i like the rough recording style, I think it adds to the honest style of the song. On the other hand i really like it when you produce your songs a bit more as well. I think this good song deserves an even better recording. Nevertheless, very well done!

Would like too
Well Magnus the problem is that I have maybe 8 or 9 songs I want to record before I pass from this third rock from the sun. At 68 I have had problems getting motivated but recently I have started to get the bug again and am playing guitar and trying to relearn these songs. I actually lost my callouses on my fingers because I stopped playing all together for a couple of years, or at least not much.

The sad thing is that a couple of them are some of the best songs I have written but I just never could get a good recording. I really wish I had someone to do the recording stuff and just let me worry about playing and singing.

Plenty to like here, Tom. An honest, engaging performance and a song that gets straight down to the heart of the matter. In terms of expanding production on it, it might be worthwhile giving Apple's new "Music Memos" app a go (assuming you have an IOS device). It put drums and bass to your musical ideas and can be tweaked a fair bit if you learn its secrets (Youtube has some good videos). I have found it quite useful when I am looking to get some flesh around a solo performance. Take care.

Old songs
It's funny how some songs written long ago come back to .. haunt us : )

If you are getting back into the swing of things and you've got a catalog of stuff you want to record, I'd say just knock 'em out like you did this one. It gets the message across. Then, if something emerges that you want to pursue with more refinement, deal with it then. Anyway, that's my thoughts on the matter.

Back into the swing
I'm glad you aren't this insecure, paranoid, or depressed all the time! Reading the posts I agree with Warren Smith, just start knocking out the old songs on recordings and then refine them later if you feel like it.

I love to play guitar. I have been writing songs for many years and have a large catalog by this time. Songwriting is easy. Writing great songs is hard! Born in Louisiana and live in Texas. I grew up on Chuck, Jerry Lee, Elvis, Ricky, Little Richard ... [see more]
