Description
regarding the situation

dusted off the epiphone casino for the main guitar. to add a somewhat eerie feel to the sound i used a electro harmonix canyon echo/delay effect pedal on two tracks with a fender strat. it can go beyond delay producing some imaginative sounds as well.

Lyrics
Mean Streets

we live on main street
after all it’s our place
we walk on main street
thinking it’s safe

happy to live our dreams
peace and quite each day
some times you don’t see it coming
on this street

i know you’re out there
somewhere, some place
i hope you are safe
on these mean streets

watched the news last night
it has happened again
the anger and the chaos
so much lost

i know you’re out there
somewhere, some place
i hope you are safe
on these mean streets

we witness an ugly face
spreading across the land
shell casings all over the place
here the bullets reign

i know you’re out there
somewhere, some place
i hope you are safe
on these mean streets

thanks for the listen. originally i was going to go the acoustic route on this. but i haven't used the casino in some time and it looked lonely sitting there.

I love how much character those pedals have. Your echo/reverb definitely adds more than just repeats to this track. I already have too much freeze/delay/loop gear, but a corner of my eye is lusting after this one.

Cool track, btw.

Great sound...
You're using all your toys to very fine effect here. Such a mellow sound you create with this accompaniment. (Wish your vocal was a little more out-front in the mix. You create a very satisfying sound. Don't bury it.) ... Guitar bridge is stellar.

Sounds....
Sounds, sounds, sounds...

I love the left/right effected guitars that are swooping and echoing but distinctly in the headphone channels. The middle lead tone has just the grit/dirt to contrast with them nicely...

I like hearing the drum fills change spacially, as well...

I think you did a nice job on the vocal, too... On my headphones the level seems about right, but I know everyone's monitoring mileage varies...

when i want something to stand out, left or right, I'll use a directional mixer plug in instead of the usual pan dial. you can dail in how much are you want to cover... plus, it stands much more in detail.

I
could see a video of this filmed from the top of a mountain or somewhere up high. Just gives me that feeling. Love that mid-way break down.

the whole song has a somewhat restrained sound, it came to two options on the break, stay subtle or ramp it up briefly. you can tell which one won. thanks again Jay, good to see you drop in.

Great track Vic!

Grooving chord progression and stellar vocals. Then that meaty lead comes in. Really love this.

Mean Streets
Atmospheric and a touch other-worldly. The song vibe made me think of someone attempting to stay in control and not panic on the MEAN streets. Solo is a gem. FX great, too. Thanks, Vic.

vocals are top notch
Love the backwards effect I'm getting on my left ear which pulls me in. I think the vocals are outstanding on this tune. Another fav by Mr. Holman. Thanks for keeping them coming through the years.

They seem to be getting meaner
every day too. Good commentary here Vic. Sad feel and very well produced and performed! A bit of salve for the soul.

all over
At one time I would have said this was an anthem for Detroit or Chicago but now it has hit Baton Rouge, Austin, Las Vegas, etc. There really are mean streets everywhere. Our politicians send our young men overseas to die for what? Then they come back to a country where the same politicians on both sides stir the bucket of hatred and the slop it from coast to coast.

I guess the only thing to do is point out what's happening as you do so well in this song. Then, personally, I keep my head low and spend as little time out there as I can.
