Another Mother's son

Description
This song is dedicated to the students of Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School. It is also dedicated to the mothers of the victims and the perpetrators of all gun violence. I believe the test of one's compassion is in practicing it not just when it is easy but when it is hard. I wanted to include that sentiment. I am not always like that but in writing a song one has the opportunity to be one's best self. I heard about Parkland while in Rome. From a distance America seems like a place filled with angry madmen. It'a hard to write lyrics about political issues that one cares about. I'm lucky to have a process that I trust. I keep writing down all the corny, obvious, didactic, cliche words until they are exhausted. Then if I am lucky the good stuff comes. It was a stroke of luck to pick the parents of this tragedy as a lens. This recording is the sample I sent to my band for them to learn the song. I have been experimenting with mastering. Although this was quite quick and rough I was pleased with how fat the track came out. All of that said I hope you like it.

Lyrics
Another Mother’s Son.
words and music René Calvo

Verse:
Am7-4, G-4, F7-4, B7b5-2 E7-2
Chorus:
Dm-2 Am7-2 B7b5-2 Am7-2
Dm-2 Am7-2 F7-2 E7-2 Am7-1

There’s a dog that’s barking
There’s a clock ticking on the wall
I can hear them coughing
somewhere down the hall

There’s a crack in the mirror
What’s the image I see
I hope it isn’t you and
I pray it isn’t me.

In the heat of the city
In the dark of the night
There’s a crowd in the street
Where someone broke the light

Did you hear the news?
There’s a shooter on the run
The phone starts ringing
The madness has begun.

Chorus:
Oh lord there’s the sound of a gun
A mother’s child is killed by another mother’s son.

Sirens are wailing
everyone you meet
is staring at the sky
Or running down the street.

Hear the gunshots ringing
Helicopter over head
Did they take him alive?
Or did they take him dead?

Chorus:

Here comes a preacher
Walking up to me
He hands me a flower
And names it misery.

Was it a madman?
Or was it a cop?
What does it matter?
Someone make it stop.

Chorus:

My son he’s smart
My boy he’s bright
He say don’t worry mama
I’ll be home tonight

Some say he ran
Some say he made a fight
16 in the back
Tell me how that can be right?

Chorus:
