Description
Hate on my friends... On the road to Key West for an extended weekend getaway. The boat in front of me, on that two lane ocean road, for 25 minutes was "The Pantie Dropper". Wrote this on the bag I got at the convenience store just before it all goes two lanes, 'cos you know I would have forgotten by the time I got back home how the thing went. That pin up is of a corded Poodle, girlies love 'um, so do Komondors. You didn't expect something else did ya?

Hello Vic
The Kick Ass Brass program works as a legacy item only. The 32 bit problem has not been resolved. I like the programs flexibility. Thanks for stopping in... See you next time.

Impressive work Mr D.
Some fine playing there.

A bit prog-jazz for me but impressive nonetheless.

Cheers

Comfort Zone
I was going to put some guitar on this at first but I simply didn't feel well enough to get that channel going. I may cut this again with that spirit in the summertime, some aggressive Tommy Bolin style might lift the proceedings. It would put the thing further away from the pro-jazz maybe... Thanks for stopping and commenting.

Hello KC
Thanks for stopping by, glad you enjoyed the piece... has a live feel 'cos I played it live, no way
I know to get that without playing it that way... That boat was fine, with twin monster outboard motors and chrome gleaming over the burgundy fiberglass hull... At the same time it was annoying having the thing in front of me going so slow down the ocean road access to Key West and delaying that cold beer I was desperate for...

Not Dead
Thanks for stopping in an offering a comment. More stuff soon I think.
This one does have that aroma. I wish I had the band that could play this, I would like to play guitar on it live with the horns blowing the fours and fives and the piano solo to bounce off... but we have this version here, much less expensive.

Digging the piano. Is it just a coincidence that you posted this the day after Cecil Taylor died?

CT is free at last!
I would have loved to play guitar with that guy comping. Not too many keyboard players left alive in the mainstream who play like he did. Good on you! We are suppose to be a community of musicians. After Holdsworth died I just let that responsibility go, I got frustrated. Holdsworth and Bernie Worrell, giants, people who changed music forever, died and it was lonely at the announcement here. So I guess we have to hold the lamp up Bud. We need community remembers or something. Like Garcia's 75th birthday and nothing here. I don't know, it seems like the obligation is to recall important people. Like Zappa or Beefheart. Especially to those who were unable, for whatever reason, to experience them while they lived, and explain just how magnificent someone like CT was, or Randy Brecker... Peter Green is another example. How does one explain that guy to processed folks? His demons, wild ego, and man on fire worldview, not to mention, the supernatural nature of his playing. CT was an amazing artist whose like will never be seen again, may he rest in peace.

The intro is pretty eclectic but it makes more sense when the piano kicks in. Very impressive keys, Daug. The horns aren't prepared to play second fiddle to anyone, either. Kudos all round. Thanks.

New Sounds
Of course you have discovered something. Thanks for stopping and commenting. I will try to explain.
That sound in the intro (returns in the outro), brackets what happens in the middle, a snappy series of related movements. The middle sections move smoothly driven by the piano and punchy horns.
The new sound comes from alternating interval relationships in a manner that defies the natural sense of key center. The melodic content literally is not normal, is not modal or atonal. The effect is disconcerting, like being stuck behind a huge boat in traffic on a two lane :)

Hello Stan
Great to see you back in town, I have missed you and them dawgs in your pack, I reached out to a you a couple of times to see what what was up during your absence, but never heard back and feared for the worst.
The piano sounds more or less like the keys on any of the other 120 songs I have posted, my "banging noise" is well documented here, and I can't, won't try to, do the thing again like that to save my life, it's pieced together from different takes, like making sausage lol! I don't have the time to devote to keeping piano chops that tight, that's hard work beyond my patience, and besides it's springtime and I am the yardman!

Yes Fergie I have been here since the place opened. In fall 2009, I erased the 60+ tunes I had posted since day one. The community here had changed, becoming hateful and repressive, and I needed to respond appropriately. What happened?... [see more]
