Lyrics
No Reason Nor Rhyme - Peter Bowen (May 2018) Capo 2

[Am] Walking down the [Em] street just the other day
[F] Thinking about the [G] world and the state of play
[Am] It’s occu[Em]pying my [F] mind [G]

Why is it that everybody runs away
From believing that we can find a better way?
We’re falling behind

Chorus
[Dm7] [Em7] [Am] [Em7]
There ain’t no reason nor rhyme
[Dm7] [Em7] [Am]
We let the blind lead the blind
[Dm7] [Em7] [Am] [Em7]
We need a new paradigm
[Dm7] [Em7] [Am]
The game’s on the line

Watching the children as they run and play
Thinking ‘bout the future that’ll come their way
We got ourselves in a bind.

Technology will likely rule their mind
Deep state wolves won’t be far behind
It’s just a matter of time

Chorus

Instrumental Break

Putin, Trump, Bashar and Little Rocket Man
Fake news and discontent throughout the land
A permanent bad hair day…

Lying and hate in their portfolio
It’s like a horror movie picture show
That’s stuck on replay

Chorus

no reason
very cool song Peter, it flows very nicely with a fine melodyline.
Horns always a bit extra, but unfortunately my horns don't work anymore with my current setup
cool guitarbreak!
enjoyed!

Have to do...
Thanks, KC. Logic recently added new Studio Horns and Studio Strings and they sound a lot better than what was on offer before. I've always wanted to play in a band with a horn section. This will have to do, though :-) Glad you liked it. Take care.

Good song
Nifty vocals, and the horns sound fine. Some of the instruments in Logic's vast library sound a bit ropey, but not the horns. I think an acoustic guitar break might be better here, "in sight" or otherwise!

Nifty
Thanks, Graham. My dad's name is Neville, and, you guessed it, his nickname was Nifty Nev. Some must have rubbed off :-) I did consider going with an acoustic guitar break but, in the end, went for something a bit different (for me). I might go back and do another version with one, though. Glad you liked it. Take care.

No Reason Nor Rhyme
Good lyrics, smooth melody line. Plenty of energy in the vocal. Tasty guitar solo. Interesting to hear the different instruments you use - it's good to expand the repertoire of these. That bit of echo on the last line of the chorus works well. As always, fine mix/master. This is excellent, Peter!

Therapeutic...
Thanks, Philip. I had fun putting this together. MIDI'ing in the piano took a bit of time but I found it quite therapeutic. The Studio Horns sound pretty good if you tweak them a bit. I did about 10 takes for the solo and just chose the best one, no edits. And, yes, that delay on the last line came into my head the first time I sang the song. I think it worked well, too. Talk soon, my friend. Take care.

New Paradigm Info
Bravo! Hopefully you'll get over this spasm before you get a reputation as some kinda truebadour.
This production is a big stylistic step for ya! Big challenge to the DAW skills to do a real band number, this is different from arranging to support an acoustic guitarist.
Allow me to suggest here the horns are doubling the B-3. Horns punch, swell and add color better than anything else. B-3 can handle horn duties sometimes, not so much the other way around. One more suggestion? Electrify the guitarist more completely.
Thank you for the post, brave to bring this message to MJ with team hate's activities raging.

Stretch
Thanks, Daug. I am trying to stretch my wings a bit DAW wise. No B3 on this. Logic Boesendorfer Grand Piano gets a run. But I get what you mean. I cheated a bit and cut and pasted bits of piano midi up to the horns in the chorus and then tweaked it. I will try to start afresh with each instrument next time. In terms of the electric (lead?), I did go through a number of overdrives, delays, etc. but in the end liked the cleaner sound. Take care.

Gasp!
No acoustic! But it's cool to leave your comfort zone sometimes. Stretches the creative muscles. I just don't seem to have one. lol
Still, this worked out really well and the mix sounds great.

Tongue-in-cheek
Thanks, Sam. I think your creative muscles are twitching okay, I wouldn't worry :-) Glad you liked how it turned out. Just a tongue-in-cheek piece really. The new Logic horns sound pretty good, though. Talk soon. Take care.

Groovy and unexpected!
Nicely put together. I really liked the lyrics.

I've not tried the "studio" instruments yet. I must give them a go.

Cheers

Nobody expects
Thanks, Dick. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! :-) It was fun to find lyrics that flowed with the song but had some bite. Glad you enjoyed them. And, yes, give Logic Studio Strings and Horns a go. They sound pretty good. Lots of things to tweak, too, if you want. Take care.

it doesn't surprise me that you would release a song without a acoustic.

Wish I could play...
Thanks, Vic. I enjoyed adding the piano via MIDI. I wish I could play properly. It would make adding software instruments far easier. Timeless classic has to be good :-) I appreciate the mix kudos, too. I'm starting to know a bit more putting one together. Take care.

Wow!
Straying out of your acoustic comfort zone... This is amazing bro! A beautiful and insightful tune. I'm afraid that this is my absolute fave by you so far. LOVE THE TONE AND PHRASING ON THAT LEAD SOLOING!!!

Electrics
Thanks, Mike. Sorry I'm a bit late in getting back to MJ. Been kinda busy. I appreciate your kind words. Glad you liked the solo, too. I play acoustic at home mostly and normally only pick up the electrics when practicing for, and playing in our cover band. It was good to let something rip in an MJ post, Take care.
