Not Living There Anymore with Jon Darren & Loob

Description
This started as an instrumental called Moonlit Night (see earlier post). Fred Jam (Loob) heard it and suggested to Jon Darren that he write some words to it. This he did, and recorded the vocal over that original instrumental. I re recorded the guitar parts to complement the singing more, and Fred added the resonator guitar and the vocal backing. The production work is his, too.

I hope you enjoy listening to the final product as much as I do!

Lyrics
dirt green sour grass
washed out walkways on short lived paths
a million magic lights whose lives are so short

how wet, sunlit concrete feels
I'll be fine don't need no training wheels
just let me fly one time, I bet I'll soar

sometimes it's hard to see 'til it's gone
nothing right can be seen when the light is wrong
anger, resentment makes it hard to move on

but if they ain't outlawed dreamin'
even though they change like seasons
it don't cost nothin' just to dream up more

eyes are best faced forward
winter time is finally over
you're not living there anymore

that house still has the same wooden shutters
and the same old wood Louisville sluggers
still sittin' in the same place by the door

but if they ain't outlawed dreamin'
you're in the game if you're alive and breathin'
and it don't cost a penny to imagine life as more

eyes are best faced forward
spring-time is almost over
and you're not living there anymore

and you're not living there anymore
you're not living there anymore

This is absolutely beautiful... such a clear crisp vice with the right touch of verb. Lovely acoustic picking and the dobro/steel sounds perfect. You need to get this to Nashville. Thanks

team work
it's great when something gels. Jon & Freddie stepped right in like it was their own composition. kudos Philip, Jon & Freddie.

Fresh take on outlaws?
Maybe not, but this is in the red dirt tradition, sounds like 80s Austin. 6th Street was a ballad street then, Antone's was where the rock-n-roll/blues folks went. The Broken Spoke featured this ballad style as well. Brings back the times... Great song and good playing...

What a
freakin' GORGEOUS collab!!!

Jon's lyrics and vox perfectly compliment Peter's exquisite and plaintive guitar playing'

Color me astounded!

Not Living There Anymore
This is seriously good. Jon has done a great job turning your instrumental into a wonderful song. His world-worn, heart-felt vocals suit the song perfectly, too. Your guitars shimmer and Freddy's add are sweet and perfectly chosen. Wonderful production, as well. Great collab. Thanks, guys.

It was a wonderful surprise when I first heard Jon's lyrics and vocal style. He took the tune somewhere completely different. Thanks for the comments!

Well
that certainly worked out well. Funny how some things just turn out like that. Jon has a great voice and the melody works completely with the music. Fantastic mix Fred.

Instrumental
The vocal doesn't sound at all like singing along with the instrumental melody. If you hadn't told us I wouldn't have known.

A very interesting soundscape overall, with the backing vox & resonator. Also the couple of creative chords are much appreciated.

Thanks
Although the original vocal was to the instrumental, I redid the guitars removing the melody lines and making it more of a backing track. There were a few takes of both the guitars and the vocal before we got to this version! Thanks for listening and for the comments - much appreciated.

Southern Songwriter Circle
Knowing that the participants in this combination don't live anywhere near Austin, it is almost eerie how much this sounds like it could have been part of a songwriter circle with say Townes Van Zandt, Kris Kristofferson, Guy Clark and Steve Earle. Great job folks!
